The Government Delegation in Navarre and the Navarre Youth Institute have signed an action protocol to extend the so-called “violet points” to the Foral Community Youth Information Services Network. The aim is to make the younger population aware of the problem of violence against women and to provide them with information on existing resources.
The content of this protocol has been explained by the delegate of the Government in Navarre, Alicia Echeverría, and by the third vice-president and councilor for Housing, Youth and Migration Policies of the Government of Navarre, Begoña Alfaro. The press conference was also attended by the director of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women, Estrella Lamadrid, and the managing director of the Navarre Youth Institute, José María Burgaleta.
As a result of the protocol signed, the Government Delegation in Navarre and the Navarre Youth Institute will collaborate in the dissemination of awareness campaigns against violence against women, distributing graphic material in the 29 offices and youth information points for display in visible places. The aim is to contribute to the younger population’s awareness of violence against women. At the same time, the offices and points will provide those who request basic information on the different specialized resources available to victims.
To this end, the Government Delegation will offer training to the people working in the offices and youth information points. Training will be provided by the head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women and by the State Security Forces and Bodies competent in this field.
The delegate of the Government, Alicia Echeverría, has highlighted the importance of working from the training and awareness in the field of gender violence with the youngest population, “which is the generation of the future”, she said. At the same time, he has advocated disseminating information on the remedies available to victims of male violence “so that they can identify gender-based violence, do not keep it quiet or hide it, and can ask for help in safety.”
Likewise, the Third Vice-President and Councilor for Housing, Youth and Migration Policies, Begoña Alfaro, said: “Our intention is to provide our young people with as much information as possible, strengthening all available resources and services to resolve their concerns and questions. And, above all, so that they are aware that, effectively, our society remains a male chauvinistic society, in which gender violence is a structural problem that is still very present today.”
About violet spots
The Violeta Point is an instrument promoted by the Ministry of Equality to involve the whole of society in the fight against male violence and to spread, in a massive way, the information necessary to know how to act in a case of violence against women.
In the case of the Foral Community, all pharmacies operate as violet points, thanks to the protocol signed between the Government Delegation and the Official College of Pharmacists of Navarre, and petrol stations, in accordance with the agreement signed between the Ministry of Equality and the State Association of Petrol Stations. In addition, some municipalities install temporary violet points during their patron saint’s holidays.
