26 March 2026. Holy Week will cause 825,000 trips on the roads of the Region of Murcia, 2% more than last year, reported this morning the government delegate during the presentation of the Special Operation designed by the DGT on the occasion of these festivities.
Francisco Lucas, accompanied by Virginia Jerez, Provincial Chief of Traffic, and Francisco Javier Utrabo, commander of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, has indicated that the greatest volume of displacements will occur in the second phase of this operation, between Wednesday 1 and Monday 6 April, period in which around 455,000 vehicle movements are expected on our roads.
“As always, it is important to appeal to the prudence and responsibility of drivers, to ask them to check vehicles before starting a trip and to avoid any distractions and those risky behaviors that usually cause the most serious accidents,” he said.
The government delegate has indicated that the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard will mobilize 232 agents during these days to ensure the safety of drivers and guarantee the fluidity of traffic.
“The agents are always there to help, but they also need the collaboration of the drivers themselves so that the trips are safe and everyone reaches their destination without incident,” he added.
This Special Operation will take place in two phases, coinciding with the festivities of these dates:
• 1st phase: from 15:00 h. on Friday, March 27 to 24:00 h. on Sunday, March 29, 2026. It is estimated that there are 200,508 trips in our Region.
• 2nd phase: from 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2026, 454,940 trips are planned.
During those days and hours on the main roads of the Region, extraordinary control, regulation and surveillance services will be established by the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, which will have the support of the Traffic Management Center of the Levante (CGTL) and the Variable Message Panels available on our main roads. In addition, they will have fixed and section speed control points, 6 mobile radar units, as well as air support (helicopters and drones) that could be programmed by the CGTL.
Northwest Arc
Lucas has highlighted that the recently inaugurated Northwest Arc will contribute significantly to the fluidity of traffic and to decongest points of our especially conflicting roads on dates such as Holy Week.
“It is a very important infrastructure that takes about 27,000 vehicles a day from the Espinardo knot, a figure that we will analyze these days and that will surely be much greater during these dates.”
