- The delegate of the Government reaffirms that the Region of Murcia is safe and that statistics are the best tool to continue improving and working on the protection and security of citizens
September 10, 2024. The crime rate per 1,000 inhabitants in the Region of Murcia is 3.6 points lower than the national total, said the Government delegate when analyzing the figures of the crime balance for the second quarter, which records a slight increase of 1.8% in conventional crime and a decrease of 5.7% in burglaries in homes, establishments and other facilities, 10% in homicides and 6.3% in drug trafficking.
All this, Mariola Guevara has indicated, in a context clearly conditioned by phenomena such as cybercrime, which has increased by 11.1%, and which represents 18.4% of the total number of criminal offenses registered in this period in the Region of Murcia.
“We continue to be one of the safest regions in Spain and with the highest quality of life thanks to the extraordinary work of the State Security Forces, which have managed to reduce those crimes that generate the greatest sense of subjective insecurity, such as robberies with force in homes and facilities, or theft in agricultural or livestock farms, which have fallen by 21.6%, in addition to having increased by 9% the percentage of clarified criminal offenses and by 2.6% the percentage of detainees and investigated,” he added.
Guevara has said that the statistics must be interpreted according to generally low historical figures that cause any small increase to increase the percentages and may even distort them.
“You don’t want to be overly triumphalist when the data is good or alarmist when it is less. Statistics are the best tool and the most immediate reference to insist on those aspects that are most necessary and continue to improve, but what is really important is that our citizens live in peace and that in this region we enjoy a magnificent quality of life, largely because there is no problem of insecurity, beyond the political and partisan use made by some,” he insisted.
During these first six months, 68 more crimes against sexual freedom have been registered in the Region of Murcia compared to the same period last year, a figure that must be put in relation to policies and measures to raise awareness and reduce social tolerance in the face of this type of crime, which means that victims are more willing to report them.
“We are carrying out very important active policies in this regard, promoting the accession of municipalities to the Viogen System of the Ministry of the Interior, and creating violet points in shops, establishments and professional associations to turn them into points of advice and denunciation of any aggression towards women or crimes against sexual freedom,” concluded the delegate of the Government.
