February 28, 2024. The delegate of the Government has today encouraged all the municipalities of the Region of Murcia to promote the incorporation of their local police to the VIOGEN System for the protection of victims of gender violence, to which Molina de Segura has joined today, so there are already 24 municipalities integrated in it that cover 68% of the population and 73% of the regional territory.
Mariola Guevara, accompanied by the mayor of the town, José Ángel Alfonso, and the Superior Chief of Police, Ignacio del Olmo, presided over the signing of the protocol, after which he pointed out that VIOGEN has been very effective in creating a network for the rapid, integral and effective monitoring and protection of women and minors victims of gender violence in which the institutions responsible for providing assistance and security to the victims are integrated, facilitating the transmission of information necessary for the monitoring of protection measures, the situation of the victim and the circumstances of the aggressor.
“The collaboration between the local police and the State Security Forces and Bodies is fundamental for an effective protection of the victims of gender violence, and with this protocol we carry out a comprehensive follow-up of the victims and provide more means and resources to the municipalities of the Region and their local police, which currently manage 1,012 of the 4,803 active cases in follow-up that are in the Region of Murcia,” he explained.
Guevara has valued the political commitment, institutional impulse and financial support of the Government of Spain in this fight against gender violence, for which, between 2018 and 2023, it has transferred to the Region of Murcia 22 million euros from the funds of the State Pact.
“In addition, another 3.5 million euros have been allocated to fund various programmes against gender violence and for assistance to victims of sexual assault and another 4 million euros to municipalities in the region to finance various programmes and strengthen municipal competences in the field of gender violence,” added the Government delegate.
With this protocol, the local police of Molina de Segura and the National Police will share information and resources and establish basic criteria of collaboration and coordination that will allow the optimization of human and material resources to ensure the effective compliance of judicial measures of protection to victims of gender violence.
