December 12, 2023. Enhancing security in the commercial sector, strengthening measures aimed at reducing infringements and providing a safer environment for traders and citizens are the main objectives of the Safe Trade Plan presented today by the Government delegate and the Chief Superior Police in the Region of Murcia.
Francisco Jiménez and Ignacio del Olmo have visited several establishments in the Santa Eulalia neighborhood of Murcia, where they have distributed informative brochures with advice for customers and merchants of a plan that began on December 1 and will end on January 8, 2024 and that contemplates the deployment of 1,500 agents, distributed in different shifts and on different days, throughout the Region of Murcia.
“We launched this initiative after numerous meetings of the Citizen Participation delegates of the National Police with the merchants of each locality to prepare a plan that will provide security in areas of special commercial agglomeration during the Christmas holidays, and for this the presence of uniformed agents and also of a countryman will be strengthened,” explained Jiménez during the presentation.
The Safe Trade Plan aims to guarantee citizen security during the coming holidays, provide a safe environment for trade, improve objective and subjective security with the aim of preventing and avoiding the commission of thefts, scams, robberies and other crimes that usually occur taking advantage of the agglomerations in commercial and leisure areas.
“A large part of the sales of the year are concentrated during these dates and, therefore, what it is about is to give security to buyers and also merchants, which also constitute an important factor of collaboration with the Police throughout the year through our Citizen Participation unit,” added Del Olmo.
The special deployment has reinforced the presence of troops in the fringes of greater commercial activity and influx of people, promoting police patrols in both uniform and civilian, so it will have an impact on citizen security objectively and subjectively. Thus, special attention will be paid to shopping centers, warehouses and establishments, which at this time accumulate large quantities of goods, to prevent robberies through butrons.
Recommendations of the National Police
From the National Police it is recommended, as far as possible, to avoid carrying large amounts of cash and make sure that no one follows you when you go to take money from the cashier or during the extraction and exit of the bank.
-Do not accept help from strangers who supposedly want to help you, sometimes they take advantage of an oversight to seize our money and valuables. The bags are well closed and in sight, crossed and never on the back.
The Superior Headquarters of the Region of Murcia has prepared a special operation in which agents of the Provincial Brigades of Judicial Police, Citizen Security and Information participate to prevent the commission of the aforementioned crimes and increase the security of the merchant and the citizen.
Citizens are reminded that when they become victims of any type of crime or witness them, they can call the National Police’s telephone number 091, a 24-hour hotline that responds immediately to citizens’ demands.
