October 20, 2023. The prevention of bullying and cyberbullying and the risks of the internet and social networks are the most demanded topics within the Master Plan for Coexistence in Educational Centers and their Environments, which last year held 1318 talks for students from 359 educational centers in the Region of Murcia.
The government delegate, Francisco Jiménez, has presented today at the IES Elcano of Cartagena a new edition of a plan that aims to improve the training, protection and safety of schoolchildren and for which this 2023/24 academic year 400 schools have already requested their participation.
“We note with satisfaction that every year the number of centers that are interested in participating in the Master Plan increases, since it really helps to train students in respect for fundamental rights and freedoms, in the values of dignity and equality between men and women and in the need to eradicate violent behavior in the school environment,” said Jiménez.
Of the 1318 talks held last year, the National Police conducted 747, the Civil Guard, 424 and the Violence against Women Unit of the Government Delegation, 147.
“The work carried out by the Civil Guard and the National Police is very important, because they make an enormous effort to carry out their work and dedicate an essential time to girls and boys for their protection and safety in schools, where, in addition, last year they had 259 meetings with the management teams,” added Jiménez.
The Master Plan, which is developed jointly by the Government Delegation, through the High Inspection of Education and the Unit for Violence against Women, the National Police, the Civil Guard and the Ministry of Education, through its Observatory for Coexistence, aims to reinforce prevention through training in respect for fundamental rights and freedoms and to inculcate in students values as important as dignity and equality and prevent behaviours of gender violence, racism or xenophobia.
The Master Plan, in addition to conducting talks for students, incorporates other actions such as:
-Coordination meetings with management teams: 259 meetings were held in the past year.
-Increased vigilance in school settings: Last year, 8663 surveillance actions were carried out by the State Security Forces and Corps.
-Permanent access to a police expert (On specific topics demanded by the centers)
-Exhibitions. Intended to bring the State Security Forces and Bodies closer to the students: Deactivation of explosives, guide dogs, anti-riot,…
The Master Plan, in an attempt to improve the confidence of children and young people in the State Security Forces and Corps, also includes exhibitions of both bodies, such as the one enjoyed today by the students of this center.
The Master Plan is developed in schools that request it on a voluntary basis, adapts to the needs of the school itself and involves students, teachers and parents, together with the State Security Forces and Corps, whose agents, through talks, meetings, exhibitions, conferences and monitoring, address the issues that are specific to the Plan:
- Bullying at school
- Drugs and alcohol
- Violent gangs, racism and intolerance
- Violence against women and discrimination
- Internet and social network risks
