July 19, 2023. Francisco Jiménez has received this morning 49 officers who join the National Police in the Region of Murcia, 38 trainees who will complete their training period in Cartagena, Lorca and Molina de Segura, and eleven policemen who have been assigned to the Region of Murcia.
All, said the government delegate, will contribute to strengthening citizen security in a particularly critical period such as summer, a period in which the special device of Operation Summer is active, designed by the Ministry of Interior to support the regional tourism sector and thus guarantee the protection and security of all citizens, national and foreign, who come or move through the Region of Murcia to enjoy their summer vacation period.
Of the 38 policemen in practice, among whom there are eight women, eighteen will be assigned to the Headquarters of Murcia, eight in Cartagena, seven in Lorca and five in Molina de Segura.
Jiménez has welcomed all of them, and has particularly congratulated the 38 students who have passed the training period at the National Police School of Ávila and who will complete this training integrated in different police stations in the Region of Murcia.
The event has also served for the official presentation to the government delegate of eleven policemen, a sub-inspector, three officers and seven policemen who come destined for the Region of Murcia.
Ignacio del Olmo, Superior Chief of Police, explained that, during the summer, most of them will serve in citizen security tasks, taking into account “that this year is a little atypical, because in September three summits are held in Murcia linked to the Spanish presidency of the European Union, a month in which two massive events coincide such as the Carthaginese and Roman Festivals in Cartagena and the Feria de Murcia”.
“Therefore, we concentrate the troops on citizen security tasks and, subsequently, from October, they will be reintegrated to certain posts that remain vacant within our policy of rotation of troops within the workforce,” he said.
European Commissioners
The event was also attended by six of the seven Italian and French national police participating in the Region of Murcia in the European Commissariats project, which allows the formation of joint patrols between the police of different European countries to strengthen citizen security during the summer. Among them, there are four who serve in Cartagena (three from the Police Nationale of France and one from the Polizia di Stato of Italy), two Italians in Murcia and a Frenchman in Lorca.
The government delegate thanked them for their commitment to participate in this European project, which undoubtedly strengthens coordination between the various police forces and cross-border security.
