The Government Delegation in Melilla has today presented the programme of activities organized on the occasion of November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, as detailed in a press conference by the Head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women, Laura Segura.
Segura has reported that tomorrow, November 25 at 11:00 a.m., the Government Delegation will host the reading of the Institutional Manifesto against Gender Violence, followed by the annual tribute to the victims. Later, at 12:00 hours, the Delegation will join the institutional act in the Assembly Palace.
From today, the facade of the building also features the institutional canvas against male violence, as part of the campaign promoted by the Ministry of Equality.
Recognitions Menina 2025
On November 27, at 7:30 p.m., the presentation of the Menina 2025 Awards, which distinguish the work of people and entities committed to the eradication of violence against women, will take place in the Auditorium of the University Hospital.
This year the Menina 2025 awards fall to Juan Antonio Martín, of the Woman-Minor Team (EMUME) of the Civil Guard, and to the Schools for Equality of Melilla, for their preventive and educational work. In addition, honorable mentions will be awarded to the ATA-STES Melilla Union and to Concepción Cortés, former director of Nursing and Specialized Care.
Children and youth contest “#RompeElSilencio”
On December 2, at 18:00 hours in the IES Virgen de la Victoria, the awards ceremony of the third edition of the children and youth competition for equality and against gender violence, organized by the Coordination Unit, will be held.
The jury’s decision will be communicated to the centers on November 28. Segura has highlighted the “very wide participation of students from all educational centers” in this awareness initiative.
Educational programs and activities in centers
The Head of the Unit recalled that since September, training and awareness activities have been carried out in multiple areas, including the conference of the social educator Marina Marroquí on November 6.
In addition, once again, the educational centers have the ‘Violets Suitcases’, an itinerant resource with 60 books of children’s and youth literature to work on equality and prevention from early ages.
On the other hand, training talks are being held in Family Schools and participating in initiatives of institutes such as “Stories of Life” of the IES Juan Antonio Fernández, dedicated this month to 25N.
Breaking the silence against violence against women
Segura has sent a strong message against male violence, recalling that the Government Delegation maintains a firm and determined commitment to combat it “in all its manifestations”.
She stressed that violence against women is “a serious violation of fundamental rights” and that its eradication requires “the involvement of all institutions, administrations, entities and society as a whole”.
He has also stressed the importance of “breaking the silence”, combating social tolerance towards these violence and continuing to promote prevention measures, education on equality and improvement of care and protection resources.
Segura recalled the official figures: 1,333 women killed since 2003, 38 so far in 2025, and 65 minors killed since 2013, insisting that “sexual violence and many others remain hidden and unreported”.
Finally, it has encouraged citizens to join in the acts of 25N and maintain an “active, unanimous and clear” stance against any form of male violence.
