The first days of the entry into operation of the new European Border Control System, Entry/Exit System (EES), have been developed without noticeable incidents at the Beni-Start Pass.
The Government Delegate, Sabrina Moh, has visited the border post to check in situ the proper functioning of the system and the development of the procedures implemented by the National Police and the Civil Guard.
The head of the delegation explained that this system “will prevent the passage of people who do not meet the conditions of entry and will point to those who exceed the authorized period of stay”. In addition, it allows “to combat identity theft and fraudulent use of travel documents, also contributing to the prevention, detection and investigation of terrorist crimes or other serious crimes”.
“The ESS allows us not only to know who is entering, but also who is leaving, ensuring that all citizens who pass through the border crossing comply with current legislation,” he stressed.
The Entry/Exit System (EES) is an initiative of the European Union that electronically registers the entries and exits of third-country nationals in the Schengen territory, replacing the traditional stamping of passports. The system automates and computes all management, thus reinforcing the security and agility of border procedures. It will be progressively implemented until it reaches its full operation on April 10, 2026.
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in the city, has highlighted the investment of the central Executive, close to 10 million euros, destined to the modernization of the border of Beni-Enza. An investment that, he said, “has a direct impact on improving the facilities and working conditions of National Police and Civil Guard agents.”
“This new system not only strengthens security, but also represents a qualitative leap in the modernization of the border and in the quality of public service provided to citizens,” he concluded.
The Delegate wanted to expressly thank all the professionals involved in the implementation of the ESS, especially the State Security Forces, for their training, involvement and commitment in this process of technological and operational transformation.
