“Being a Civil Guard is more than just a profession. It goes beyond the work entrusted to you. It represents a model of personal sacrifice, whose vocation of service transcends obligations and where the sense of responsibility is present in every act.”
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, on the occasion of the official act that has been carried out this noon in the Command of the Civil Guard on the occasion of the celebration of the Feast of Our Lady the Virgin of the Pillar, Patron of the Benemérita, has paid tribute to the work of the men and women who make up the Corps, whom she has defined as “an example of sacrifice, responsibility and vocation of public service”.
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in the city has highlighted that this celebration, which coincides with the National Day, is a day in which “we proudly celebrate an anniversary that contains history, values and commitment to Spain”, and in which the values that the Civil Guard represents since its creation are extolled: loyalty, honor and sacrifice.
132 years of uninterrupted presence in Melilla
Moh recalled the 132 years of uninterrupted service of the Civil Guard in Melilla since 1893, underlining “the enormous professionalism, tireless dedication and loyalty” with which the agents carry out their work.
“The Civil Guard is part of the history of Melilla. For generations, you have been present in every corner of this earth, guaranteeing security, accompanying the citizen, protecting our borders and showing an exemplary attitude,” he said.
The Delegate has valued the work of the civil guards in the protection and safeguarding of borders, highlighting their “special sensitivity to migratory pressure” and their ability to adapt to the new challenges posed by today’s society.
Institutional collaboration and recognition
Moh has expressed his thanks to the families of the civil guards, “that silent but essential support”, and has had a special memory for those who have gone into the reserve situation and for the agents who gave their lives in the act of service.
It has also highlighted the close collaboration that the Civil Guard maintains with the National Police, the Local Police, the Armed Forces and the different public and social institutions of the city. “This exemplary cooperation shows that security and coexistence are built between everyone and everyone. The Government of Spain would like to acknowledge and thank you for this joint and loyal work, which makes it possible for Melilla to be an increasingly safe, cohesive and human city.”
“Serving Spain and Melilla is a form of love for the homeland”
In the final part of her speech, the head of the delegation reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Spain to the Civil Guard and expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Executive and the Minister of the Interior:
“The Civil Guard represents the best of us as a country. Serving Spain and Melilla from responsibility and humility is one of the most noble forms of love for our homeland.”
The event, held at the Melilla Command Office, was attended by civil and military authorities, institutional representatives, family and veterans of the Corps, and concluded with an emotional tribute to the civil guards who died in the act of service.
