The Head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation in Melilla, Laura Segura Sarompas, participated on 7 and 8 October in the Annual Congress of Coordination Units and Violence against Women, held at the Niemeyer Center in Avilés (Asturias).
The meeting, organized by the Government Delegation in Asturias through its Coordination Unit against Violence against Women, has brought together about 80 participants from all over the country, among institutional leaders and specialists in the field of equality and protection of victims. This space has served to strengthen coordination, share experiences and define common strategies in the fight against male violence.
“Coordination between institutions is essential to ensure an effective and humane response to violence against women,” said Segura, who stressed the importance of “maintaining constant communication and joint action among all actors involved in the protection of victims.”
Best practices and experiences in Melilla
Segura spoke at the round table of the Network of Units on Violence against Women, moderated by Zulema Altamirano Argudo, Assistant Director-General for Inter-Agency Coordination on Violence against Women. Under the title “The monitoring of VIOGEN victims in the different territories: casuistry, problems and good practices”, the head of the Melilla Unit has presented the main results of the work carried out in the territory.
Segura has addressed in her presentation the importance of collaboration in prevention and action when acting against all types of violence against women, such as trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation in contexts of prostitution, in addition to gender violence.
The Head of the Unit has highlighted the work carried out in Melilla within the framework of the Protocol on Prevention and Response to Violence against Women (Seed Project), as well as the collaboration with the educational field through the Educational Programs Unit of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD).
In this regard, it has highlighted the creation and support of Schools for Equality and the implementation of awareness-raising activities, talks and training aimed at students, teachers and families, which contribute to fostering a culture of respect and prevention from an early age.
During her speech, Segura also insisted on the need to make visible the work carried out by territorial units and to continue promoting a feminist perspective that values the reality of women and combats negationist discourses.
A Joint Workspace
The Annual Congress has made it possible to share experiences between the different territorial units, identify common challenges and strengthen the network of institutional cooperation promoted by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence.
“These meetings are essential to advance a closer, effective and coordinated response to all forms of violence against women,” concluded Laura Segura.
