The Social Centre for the Elderly of the Imserso in Melilla this Monday put the finishing touch to the Week of the Elderly 2025, a celebration full of activities, emotion and coexistence, organized on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, which is commemorated every 1 October.
Throughout the week, the elderly have enjoyed a wide program of activities, among which they highlighted the photographic exhibition, competitions and different recreational proposals that had a great participation.
The closing ceremony brought together dozens of users and family members in a day that combined emotion, recognition and celebration. After the meal, tribute was paid to Dr. Omar Haouari, for his constant collaboration with the centers of the Imserso during his years at the head of the INGESA. Users María Sánchez and Rosario Galindo, from the Day Center, and Manuel Blanco and Juani Ruiz, were also recognized for their involvement and continued participation in the life of the Social Center.
A center full of life
The Government Delegate in Melilla, Sabrina Moh, wanted to highlight the importance of these spaces and the active role of their users. “This is a living center thanks to the vitality, joy and commitment of its users. Here we breathe coexistence, companionship and an enormous enthusiasm to continue learning and sharing,” he said.
Moh also thanked the work of the professionals and the team of the Imserso, “which make it possible for our elders to have a space to enjoy, relate and feel accompanied”.
For her part, the Territorial Director of the Imserso, Verónica Aznar, gave an emotional speech in which she highlighted the energy and participation of the major melillenses. “You are the soul of this center. Your energy, your joy and your desire to participate serve as an example to the next generations,” he said.
The head of the Imserso also expressed her gratitude to the Social Center team “for their dedication, empathy and daily commitment to our elders.”
The director of the Center, Ramón Paqué, highlighted the high participation in all the activities and has described these days as “unforgettable, thanks to the enthusiasm of all of you who are part of this great family”.
The final note of the event was put by Manuel Rojas, who filled the room with music and joy with a repertoire that encouraged all those present to get up and dance, thus closing with a festive touch a week that has again shown that the elders of Melilla are synonymous with vitality, coexistence and example.
