The Delegate of the Government in Melilla, Sabrina Moh, has today reported that the average contributory pension in the city stands at 1,285.7 euros per month, an increase of 4.98% compared to the previous year.
The head of the delegation stressed that “this increase is not the result of chance, but of the firm commitment of the Government of Spain to our elders, who have worked all their lives to raise this country. Our duty is to guarantee them decent and safe pensions, and that translates into facts like this increase.”
In Melilla, a total of 9,068 people receive a contributory pension, distributed in the following modalities:

- 2,274 people with widow's pension, with an average of 941.01 euros/month.
- 785 people with an orphan's pension, who receive 395.86 euros/month.
- 23 people with a pension in favour of relatives, the average amount of which is 821.67 euros/month.
Nationally, the Social Security paid a total of 10,379,303 pensions in August to 9,389,688 people, with a monthly payroll amounting to 13,638.1 million euros.
The Delegate stressed that “faced with those who question the viability of the public system, the Government of Spain has shown that it is possible to guarantee sustainability and, at the same time, improve the living conditions of our pensioners. This is one of the greatest social achievements of our country and we will continue to strengthen it.”
Sabrina Moh concluded that “the revaluation of pensions is a clear sign that this government leaves no one behind, protecting those who have contributed most to the development of our society.”
