The average pension in Melilla in June 2018 was 1,136.52 euros per month. Today, thanks to the revaluation applied by the Government of Pedro Sánchez, the average pension has grown by 457.21 euros per month, to reach the figure of 1,594 euros per month.
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, who has made these data known, has stressed that, for the Executive of the Nation, “our elders are a priority and, therefore, we have worked from the first minute to guarantee the purchasing power of pensioners.”
“The pension system is one of the main assets of our Welfare State and hence our commitment and commitment to strengthen and modernize it”, he said, while recalling that it is a duty that this Government has imposed itself on the more than 9,000 melillenses who receive a pension and the more than 10 million pensioners in our country.
Impoverishment of the PP
Sabrina Moh wanted to contrast the current model with which the previous PP government implemented and which, year after year, condemned pensioners to a 0.25% increase in pensions without taking into account the increase in the cost of living, which meant the impoverishment of our elders.
Thus, he pointed out that, if the PP system had been applied, the average revaluation of pensions in the city during these 7 years would have been only 33.4 euros per month, that is, a loss of 423.8 euros per month compared to the current system.
Not only that, the Delegate recalled the opposition that the people have maintained on many occasions to increase pensions according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), coming many times to vote against.
An opposition that, in any case, has not affected the commitment of the Government since “for us the revaluation according to the increase in the cost of living and, therefore, the guarantee of the purchasing power of our elders, is an intrinsic part of the right to a public pension”.
Strengthening the Public Pension System
“The revaluation of pensions is an unwavering commitment of the Government, it is the expression of society’s solidarity with those who have contributed and deserve protection commensurate with their efforts,” Moh made clear.
But, in addition, the Delegate wanted to clarify that the increases that, year by year, the Government of Spain has materialized are fully compatible with the strengthening of the accounts of the Public Pension System, because the measures of protection and improvement of the quality of employment, promoted among other rules by the labor reform, are improving the income of the system and moving towards budgetary balance.
