The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has highlighted the entry of fruit from Morocco to our city through commercial customs: “It is good news because it was a cry from the Melillense citizens.”
To questions from the media, the head of the Government Delegation referred to the entry of 9,000 kg of watermelons and 6,000 kg of melons that occurred last Thursday that, in fact, involves the entry of the first truck with fruits and vegetables from Morocco since the closure of the border, an operation that marks a new step in the normalization of the transit of goods between both sides of the border.
“You already know that commercial customs are already operating at the hands of the business sector,” Moh said, stressing that “another type of merchandise that was allowed” has already begun to be introduced, such as fruit and vegetable products.
The Delegate explained that a few weeks ago a meeting was held in the Government Delegation to explain to entrepreneurs the necessary procedures for importing and introducing new products. “There were already some people who expressed their will to be able to import fruits and vegetables,” he said, adding that this interest has resulted in the arrival in Melilla of the first truck loaded with “melons and watermelons from Morocco” last week.
Regarding exports, the Delegate has indicated that “they are materializing according to the needs and considerations of the business sector”, since it is the entrepreneurs themselves who decide when and how to carry out these operations, regulating the pace according to their interests.
Finally, Moh has highlighted that there have already been numerous fish imports and that now the commercial range is expanded with fruit and vegetables, which reinforces the progressive functioning of the commercial customs and opens up new opportunities for the business fabric of the city.
