The Fiscal and Border Office has held the XXXIIII Seminar on Border Surveillance and Combating Irregular Immigration in Melilla. The objective of the seminar has been to train and instruct Civil Guard personnel in border surveillance strategies and operations.
The closing of the event was attended by the Excma. Mrs. Government delegate in the city, Sabrina Moh Abdelkader and that of the Colonel Chief of the Command, Jesús Rueda Jiménez.
The Colonel Chief of the Command wanted to congratulate the participants who have passed this training, with the desire that they have been able to learn what is being done in Melilla in terms of border surveillance and fiscal matters.
In this sense, he highlighted the “magnificent staff” that the Melilla Command has, “I hope you will take a good memory and a pinch of Melilla in your heart”. Finally, he has wished them all luck in their work and in their next missions.
For her part, the Delegate of the Government in Melilla has thanked “the work, professionalism and dedication” of the people who have received the training and those who have been training these men and women in the XXXIII Seminar on Border Surveillance and Fight against Irregular Immigration.
Thus, he assured that “he does not think of a better place for this training than Melilla”, especially for the practical part and the means that are available to professionals to work on such an important issue as the fight against irregular immigration.
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in the city has congratulated the participants and has valued the coordination of these professionals, “an important pillar” in this work.
“I always like to convey the pride felt by a Government Delegate when I know that we have such qualified professionals in charge of such complex tasks as the fight against irregular immigration,” she concluded.
XXXIII Frontex Seminar
During the course, participants have received intensive training, both theoretical and practical, aimed at training them to participate in joint international missions to control the external borders of the European Union (EU) and other international missions that require the participation of Civil Guard personnel specialized in Prosecutor and Borders, in African countries such as Mauritania, Gambia, Mali, Cape Verde, Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau and Senegal. These actions are carried out in collaboration with the local authorities of these countries in order to prevent the departure of boats with irregular immigration.
In addition, the seminar has considered various practices of real service together with the Prosecutor and Border Units of the Command of the Civil Guard of Melilla, with the aim of providing the assistants with tools and useful experiences for their deployment in sensitive areas.
The seminar ended on June 14 and was attended by 40 officers of the Civil Guard, divided into 8 officers, 9 noncommissioned officers, 4 officers and 19 guards. Of these, five were women, which underlines the growing presence of women in this type of mission.
