The auditorium of the University Hospital of Melilla (HUME) hosted this morning the welcoming ceremony for the new promotions of residents of Family and Community Medicine (XVII Promotion) and Obstetric and Gynecological Nursing (Midwives) (XXI Promotion), which have covered all seven places offered for specialized health training in the Health Area of Melilla.
In particular, five MIR of Family and Community Medicine and two EIR of Obstetrician-Gynecological Nursing, all women, are incorporated into a state-of-the-art health infrastructure such as the University Hospital of Melilla.
The event was chaired by the Government Delegate, Sabrina Moh, and was attended by the Territorial Director of the National Institute of Health Management (INGESA), Omar Haouari, the coordinator of the MIR Teaching Unit, Karin Ghazi El Hamouti, and the coordinator of the Midwives Teaching Unit (UDM), María del Carmen Torreblanca.
During her speech, the Government Delegate welcomed the new residents, stressing that they are the first promotion that will complete all their training at the University Hospital of Melilla, which is “a milestone for public health in Melilla”.
Moh also stressed that “thanks to an investment of more than 150 million euros from the Government of Spain, today we have a leading hospital that allows us not only to improve health care, but also to train professionals with all the guarantees”.
The Delegate has also wished the new residents a stage “of fruitful and full learning” and has valued the commitment of INGESA to the training of specialists in an increasingly competitive environment.
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in the city has also stressed that Melilla was the first city in the country to cover 100% of the specialized health training places, which demonstrates the commitment of INGESA to the training of health professionals and the growing attractiveness of the Melilla destination to develop this key stage of training.
In this call of 2025, the Health Area expanded its MIR offer from three to five places in the specialty of Family and Community Medicine, in line with the objective of strengthening Primary Care and consolidating continuous and specialized training from the public system.
Looking ahead to next year, as announced by the Government Delegate, it is planned that Melilla will incorporate the specialty of Internal Medicine into its MIR training catalog, which will allow to continue expanding services and offering new professional opportunities in the city.
Moh concluded by highlighting that, thanks to the facilities of the University Hospital and the efforts of health and teaching staff, Melilla is positioning itself as one of the most competitive and attractive destinations in Spain for specialized health training.
The seventeenth promotion of MIR consists of Elena Martín Escobar (Almería), María Fernández Ibáñez (Melilla), Manal Afghani (Málaga), Laura María González Martín (Melilla) and María de los Ángeles García Matas (Sevilla).
The 21st EIR promotion is made up of Romaisa Mohamed Mohamed and Nuriman Azirar Mohamed (both from Melilla)
