The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has welcomed the visit made by the President of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, to our city to inaugurate the University Hospital of Melilla (HUME).
“It was the culmination of a project I was already working on. As he himself commented in his statements, it was a debt owed to Melilla and, therefore, to bring under his arm the inauguration of an infrastructure of 150 million euros, of 45,000 square meters, a hospital eight times bigger than the Comarcal, is very positive news,” he said in an interview granted this morning to Onda Cero.
The highest representative of the Executive of the Nation in our city, in addition, has also valued the fact that there has been a new visit of the President of Spain to our city. “In Melilla we always say that it is important that our representatives come to visit the city and Pedro Sánchez has come three times as President of the Government,” he recalled.
Moreover, he stressed that he is the only President of Spain who has come to Melilla on three occasions. “We have to remember that another President who came was also José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and that we have not had any visits in the mandates of the Popular Party,” he said.
“It is always important for the President to visit the city and more if he comes to inaugurate such an important infrastructure for the Melillenses as the University Hospital,” he stressed.
Suitable for real needs
The Delegate has been asked about the criticisms of the PP leaders who have even qualified the new health infrastructure as a ‘health center’.
“Blessed health center would be then,” said Moh, who recalled that the new hospital is 8 times bigger than the Comarcal and has the most cutting-edge technology that currently exists in the market.
“There are issues in which the opposition and the government should rejoice and one is this,” said Moh, who pointed out that the PP “should know that any hospital, when it opens, has a functional transfer plan.” “No hospital has been opened from one day to the next in its entirety, that is impossible, it would harm health care,” he said. No hospital has opened that way,” he said.
Sabrina Moh has been convinced that the criticisms of the popular respond exclusively to an attempt to eclipse the good news for the Melillenses, such as the fact that our city has this infrastructure at the service of society.
A hospital, he recalled, which carries “a lot of background work and also a lot of commitment”. Thus, he recalled that five years ago we suffered the Covid pandemic, something that “also made us reflect and undertake a modification to be prepared, if necessary, to face such a pandemic.”
“The hospital had an initial project and has evolved throughout this time to adapt and adapt it to the real needs of the city,” he said, explaining that another modified one has also been included for the Pediatric ICU.
Moh has denied the hoaxes poured by the popular ones, clarifying that the HUME has beds, UCI, operating rooms… as well as a supply of cutting-edge machinery such as, for example, in the Laboratory or in Radiology, which is already in operation, as well as Rehabilitation or external consultations, “and, little by little, we will open the different services until we reach the more than 40 and the 1,100 professionals with whom we will have.”
In addition, the head of the Government Delegation stressed that it will be possible to avoid certain evacuations or transfers to the peninsula to receive certain treatments.
MIR and specialists
During the radio interview, the Delegate explained that an effort is being made to bring medical specialists to Melilla. “Oncologists, surgeons, pediatricians have been incorporated… doctors are gradually being incorporated,” he said, and he indicated that in addition to the increase in specialists, there is also an increase in Primary Care doctors.
“You already know that not long ago I had a surgical intervention where I had the opportunity to meet some specialists who have joined from different specialties,” he said, and he said that, progressively, there will be an increase of more than 250 professionals.
It has also highlighted that Melilla is the only territory in Spain where all the Resident Internal Physician (MIR) positions have been covered and has announced that, in addition to the MIR of Family and Community Medicine that is implemented in our city, Ingesa is working so that, from the year 2026, other types of specialists can be formed, such as the Intensivists.
But, in addition, Moh has pointed out that since the new infrastructure is much greater than the Regional Hospital, personnel will be incorporated to respond to many services such as security professionals, cleaning… so, in addition, it will generate direct and indirect employment.
Claim for professionals
Since HUME has the most cutting-edge technology and machinery on the market, Sabrina Moh has explained that healthcare professionals have been trained for some time. “The Hospital’s starting signal started earlier, because we have always said that we wanted to link the date of the inauguration to the date of the start and operation of the hospital and we have done so,” he said.
Precisely in order for the HUME to function “previously it was necessary to do a job, not only that of the Functional Plan for the transfer from one hospital to another, but also the training of professionals”, he clarified.
A necessary training for different areas such as the Laboratory or the use of the ‘Da Vinci’ surgical machine. A learning, Moh has clarified that, in addition to the previous one, there will be a continuous learning. “Ingesa’s workers and staff are also making a considerable effort,” he said.
At this point, the Delegate has been convinced that this leading Hospital, in addition to the advantages of living in Melilla, “can attract professionals to whom I call that curiosity to be able to provide service here in the autonomous city”.
“I invite all those who want to join this project, who will be welcome,” he said, and referred to the quality leap that HUME represents in front of the Comarcal. “I think that with the University Hospital it can be an important claim,” he concluded.
