Melilla, on the occasion of the commemoration of Private Security Day, has recognized the professionalism and the vocation of service of professionals in this sector in an institutional act that has counted on the Government Delegation, the Superior Police Headquarters, the Civil Guard Command and the Private Security companies of Melilla.
In her speech, the Secretary General of the Delegation, Sana Abdeslam, highlighted the essential role played by private security in the city and in the public security system as a whole.
Abdeslam has recalled that this anniversary, which is commemorated every May 21, has deep historical roots, since on that same date of the year 1518 King Charles I promulgated the first legal provision on private security in Spain. However, it was with the Private Security Act of 1992 that the sector obtained a modern legal framework that formally integrated it into the complementary public security system, in collaboration with state security forces and bodies.
“Security is the foundation on which freedom is built,” Abdeslam stressed, stressing that both rights are enshrined in Article 17 of the Spanish Constitution. In this regard, he has highlighted the strategic importance of private security in a city like Melilla, “due to its geographical location, the diversity of its spaces and the presence of sensitive facilities”.
The Secretary General has expressed her appreciation for the “rigour, institutional loyalty and commitment” of professionals in the sector, whom she has defined as “the visible face of security, but also of attention, respect and proximity” in places such as courts, ports, airports, health centers, juvenile centers and the penitentiary center, among others.
During the event, decorations were also given to several professionals in the sector as a sign of gratitude for their trajectory and dedication. Abdeslam has dedicated special words to the families of the workers, recognizing their support for the demands of a profession that, he said, “does not understand schedules or routines.”
His speech ended with a message of encouragement and gratitude on behalf of the Government Delegation that urged professionals to continue their work with “the same effort and commitment”, since, in his words, “your work not only protects, but dignifies”.
The event has served to, once again, strengthen the institutional recognition of a collective essential in the construction of a safer and more cohesive society.
