IES Miguel Fernández’s auditorium on Monday hosted the awards ceremony organized by Amlega to recognize the work of the city’s educational centers in favor of diversity.
In this edition, the Secondary Education Institutes Miguel Fernández, Juan Antonio Fernández Pérez, Enrique Nieto, Leopoldo Queipo and Rusadir have been awarded, as well as the Miguel Marmolejo School of Art and the University of Granada in Melilla, for their involvement in the promotion of afftive-sexual diversity, inclusion and real coeducation in the classrooms.
The Provincial Director of Education, Elena Fernández Treviño, stressed that working for diversity “is not an option, but a legal and professional obligation.” In that sense, he stressed that the LOMLOE is “the most coeducational law we have”, and that it specifically contemplates the fight against male violence, including LGTBIphobia in schools.
In the words of Fernández Treviño, “we must work on real coeducation within the classrooms, attending to the affective and sexual diversity of the students to prevent discrimination, harassment or any form of male violence,” he said.
In this regard, he explained that the Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Education works actively in the field of coeducation, in close collaboration with educational centers and associations such as Amlega, which regularly participate in classrooms through talks, training activities for teachers and awareness-raising actions. A work that "is not only based on content, but also on values, which is ultimately what we must transmit", he added.
He also highlighted the recognition to the centers that are working on the legal contents indicated by the LOMLOE and that "in addition, they take special care that these contents for diversity and inclusion are carried out in the educational centers through activities, collaborations and also through all the Equality Plans that all the educational centers have and that are fulfilled through those responsible for equality of the centers."
