The Provincial Director of Education, Elena Fernández Treviño, has described as “unacceptable” and “intolerable” that, after almost a year, the Autonomous City of Melilla has not offered a solution for the School of Music ‘Paula Guillén Gallego’, managed by the Band, Orchestra and Choir Association ‘Ciudad de Melilla’ (Asbanor).
In statements to the media, Fernández Treviño recalled that the spaces temporarily ceded by the Provincial Directorate in the CEIP Encarna León will be used next year for the implementation of the first school canteen, which aggravates the urgent need for an alternative location for the school.
Given this situation, he has expressed his confidence that the Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, will intervene again to respond to a demand that, in his opinion, “the Autonomous City has not been able to resolve”, as has already happened in other cases such as the Children’s School or the Children’s School.
“We will give some alternative in some educational center so that the School of Music can develop its activity. In the end, it’s a school that gives a lot of staff to our city and caters for a lot of students, so it’s a shame to drop it”, he defended.
In this sense, he has assured that “in the face of the impossibility and lack of response that the Autonomous City of Melilla denotes time and again”, both the Provincial Directorate of Education and the Government Delegation will assume the commitment to offer solutions, with the aim of guaranteeing the continuity of the School of Music.
In addition, the Provincial Director has reproached the local executive for scrapping the School of Music and Dance project promoted during the previous term and which was “one step away” from being litigated.
“The preliminary draft had already gone through the Heritage Commission. All that remained was to tender for the refurbishment works, which even contemplated a green space. But the first thing the People’s Party did was throw that project in the trash,” he said.
