The Government Delegation hosted this morning the meeting to establish the Territorial Committee for the Coordination, Management and Direction of Operation Strait Pass (OPE) 2025, with the participation of all the agents involved in the device.
This meeting has served to address the aspects related to the OPE and to transfer the guidelines of the National Plan, approved after the recent meeting of the State Coordination and Management Committee (CECOD), in which the Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, participated.
The OPE 2025 operation will begin on June 15, coinciding with the start of the exit phase, and will run until September 15. The return phase is scheduled to begin on July 15. However, due to the fact that this year the Feast of Sacrifice is held the weekend before the official start of the OPE, a significant increase in the transit of people and vehicles through the Beni-Onset border crossing at that time is expected.
Among the issues addressed at the meeting, the adequacy of shipping lines’ timetables has been discussed, as well as the organization of pre-shipments. The bagging areas of vehicles, and the provision of water points, shade and public toilets have also been evaluated, as usual in each edition.
In the field of health, Ingesa’s health personnel will serve at strategic points of the OPE. In addition, External Health will continue with the ordinary sanitary inspection of ships and the installation of informative signage, to which QR codes are added with satisfaction surveys aimed at improving the services provided.
The Maritime Station and the Port Authority will be responsible for adapting the spaces intended for shipments, pre-shipments and passenger transit areas. During the month of July, the station will remain open 24 hours a day, and shade tents will be installed in the waiting areas. For their part, the shipowners will have an additional reinforcement at weekends to meet the increase in demand.
This first meeting has made it possible to establish a first framework of coordination between all the agencies involved in OPE 2025. It has also been agreed to hold a new meeting during the first half of June with the aim of concretizing and adjusting the operational details.
The meeting, in addition to the Government Delegate, was attended by the Territorial Coordinator and Head of the Civil Protection Unit of the Government Delegation, Mohamed Mohamed; the Territorial Director of the Ingesa, Omar Haouari; the Command of the Civil Guard; the Senior Police Headquarters; the Local Police; the Functional Area of Foreign Health, Development and Agriculture; the Port Authority of Melilla; the Ministry of Maritime Safety and Tourism; the Ministry of Environmental Economy and Tourism; and the Ministry of Tourism.
