“The work must start from the educational centers, which are transformative places and spaces where education permeates in equality.”
The Provincial Director of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD) in Melilla, Elena Fernández Treviño, accompanied by the Head of the Coordination Unit Against Violence Against Women of the Government Delegation, Laura Segura, attended this lunchtime the presentation of the exhibition ‘Lights, cameras, equality: women who tell stories’, organized by the Miguel Marmolejo Art School on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
This exhibition is, in turn, a coeducation guide made by students and teachers of the School of Art in which the role of women in the cinema and the audiovisual industry is claimed.
The highest representative of the MEFPyD in our city has valued this activity, while ensuring that little by little the number of women in the audiovisual industry is growing. “We see more and more women directing films, transmitting stories with their eyes and sensitivity,” he said.
In this sense, he has explained that thanks to women in the cinema, such as the daughter director of melillenses, Violeta Salama, or the Melilla director, Ceres Machado, “now a number of topics are addressed that previously went unnoticed and that challenge the reality of women, from their perspective”.
Therefore, the Provincial Director has reiterated her commitment to the “vital work” that is being carried out in the different educational centers of the city for coeducation. In addition, he thanked the centers for their commitment and work in favor of equal education and to “perpetuate” projects such as the one developed at the School of Art.
