The Government Delegation against Gender Violence of the Ministry of Equality has launched today, on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, the campaign ‘Are you seeing the signs?’, to emphasize that “love does not control or harm”.
As explained by the Head of the Coordination Unit Against Violence Against Women, Laura Segura, we wanted to take advantage of the fact that today, February 14, we celebrate and talk about love, to spread this campaign on social networks to prevent gender violence and to raise awareness of the importance of building healthy relationships, relationships of love, relationships without violence.
The campaign aims to communicate to all citizens the importance of preventing gender violence, as well as “raising awareness and making visible behaviors that, despite being normalized, are instruments of violence and control over the couple,” he said.
In this way, through a series of infographics they warn of these signs “that are neither healthy nor normal”, such as excessive control, social isolation, constant and unjustified jealousy, threats and emotional blackmail or inequality in decision-making.
Respect and trust
“It is essential that the whole society, and especially those in a relationship, understand that these behaviors are not healthy because love does not control or harm,” he said. “Our young people and adolescents need to be aware of how to live a relationship based on respect and trust, and to stay away from those who show these behaviors,” he said.
The Head of Unity has called for “breaking with the stereotype and myth of romantic love that comes to us daily through different media and that underpins many of the gender violence.” “In love there is no room for violence, in love there is no room for control,” he stressed.
“This myth leads to certain preconceived ideas about relationships that can be dangerous because of the roles and stereotypes they are based on, fostering relationships based on emotional blackmail, dominance, control or isolation,” he said.
“It is essential to build relationships that are not toxic and above all that these relationships are established in freedom, from mutual respect, from equality between the people who make up the relationship,” he concluded.
