The Head of the Coordination Unit Against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation in Melilla, Laura Segura Sarompas, has called for the training of professionals in gender perspective. “All of us who are immersed in situations of violence from different administrations have to train continuously,” he said.
“Training professionals is key, from education, prevention, etc. But if then the professionals, finally, do not act with that gender perspective, sometimes we can run the risk that we do not carry out effective protection”, he lamented.
In this way, he has made it clear that the administrations and institutions must continue in this fight against gender violence by sending a message of support to the victims, “that they know that the resources are, regardless of the complaint”. “Protective measures are fundamental, but there are also remedies for external violence that can be accessed regardless of whether or not there are measures,” he said.
VioGen System Enhancements 2
The Head of the Unit has highlighted the Comprehensive Monitoring System in Cases of Gender Violence (VioGén 2 System), which in this new version incorporates a series of improvements in the interconnection of administrations. “Interconnection is fundamental because it allows us to have a reality of the victims, beyond the part that has only to do with protection,” he stressed.
In this sense, he has assured that the social part is fundamental in reference to protection. “If specialized social services can dump data, we can know what are the situations of vulnerability that the victim may be experiencing at the moment and that can put her at greater risk,” he said.
Disappears risk level ‘Not Appreciated’
He also stressed that in the VioGén 2 System the level of risk ‘Not Appreciated’ disappears, “one of the measures very much requested by the institutions that are in violence and by civil society”.
“From the moment a woman makes a complaint, we understand that there is a risk and, therefore, the need for us to go on to call the risks in a different way is valued,” he said. Therefore, the system now classifies risk levels as ‘Extreme’, ‘High’, ‘Medium’ or ‘Low’.
Laura Segura has highlighted the reinforcement of protection in resistant cases, cases where there is a ‘multi-aggressor’, or persistent aggressors. “These improvements strengthen the victim protection mechanisms, as well as the care system in case the victim does not want to continue,” he said.
In this sense, he has referred to the Zero Protocol, which allows to obtain information from the environment of the victim, in addition to that obtained by the victim or the aggressor. “The more information we have about the environments, the better the protection we will be able to establish in the VioGen 2 system,” he said.
