“We are talking about 26 million euros at the disposal of the citizens of Melilla, a historical figure, the largest of all democracy in a single year for Employment Plans.”
The Provincial Director of the Public Service of State Employment (SEPE), Jorge Vera, in an interview granted to Television Melilla this morning, has assured that “it is a success in the bet of the Government of Spain for Melilla, for employment and the economy”. Thus, it has valued the investment, in a single year, of 26 million euros, “a figure that has never been given in the history of democracy in this city”.
Vera has valued the effort of the Government Delegation in Melilla to carry out, not only the Employment Plan 2024-2025 for 13 million euros, with an increase of 2 million euros, but also to achieve an extraordinary Employment Plan for another 13 million euros in the same financial year. An Employment Plan that, he said, “will open up to other higher qualifications that have not been able to leave in this first one, and will also leave occupations for middle graduates and without qualifications”.
Regarding the Employment Plan 2024-2024, he recalled that last Friday the selection criteria were published in the SEPE website, and that this week the polls begin to draw up the provisional lists. In this way, it has advanced that in March they estimate to be able to make the first recruitments.
Injection to local economy
The Provincial Director has stressed the positive impact that the convening of these two Employment Plans will have. In this way, he has referred to the numerous studies that show that the people participating in the Employment Plans do not allocate their salary to savings, but reinvest it in local trade. “Much of that 26 million euros stays in the city, reactivating the economy and generating a new niche of opportunities,” he said.
Jorge Vera has highlighted the training given by the SEPE and the Center for Orientation, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (COE), along with the active policies and programs of Fundae. “These opportunities for free training, certificates of professionalism and complementary training will give great employment opportunities in the city,” he said.
Structural drop in unemployment
For all these reasons, the head of the Provincial Directorate of the SEPE has been convinced that the Employment Plans, together with the other active employment policy programs and all the policies being carried out by the Government of Spain, will reduce unemployment structurally.
“I recently said that in 2015 12,000 people were unemployed in our city, now we are at 8,500,” he said. “With this very strong activation and the effort made by the Government Delegation, we are going to cause unemployment to reach 8,000, 7,000 and even reach 6,000 unemployed,” he said.
