“I have always said and maintained since 2018, that commercial customs were closed, that this government was going to work to be able to reopen with all the guarantees.”
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, in an interview granted to Televisión Melilla, has alluded to the fact that unverified information is published in certain media, referring to an article from El Faro de Melilla on commercial customs.
“I understand that one of the premises of journalists is to contrast the news before giving information, because we cannot forget that in the end the information is consumed by the citizens and right now what generates is that continuous uncertainty,” he said.
Moh explained that work is being done on the implementation of a series of coordinated actions between the two countries. “Commercial customs now is not like the one we had before in 2018, we are talking about a 21st century commercial customs between two countries, a European country and a third country,” he said.
“We are working to get it reopened as quickly as possible,” he said. “We have always been taking steps with the aim of achieving a job well done and optimal results, and it will be done progressively until full normalization is achieved,” he added.
Thus, he insisted that the commitment of the Government of Spain is the full normalization of the border, however, he regretted that there are those who try to torpedo and put stones in the way in this matter for personal interests. For this reason, he has called for “leaving the personalisms” and “joining forces to make our city a better city”.
Bilateral work
Sabrina Moh has valued as “unwise” to use terms of war in an issue like this, in reference to the headline “Morocco wins the battle”. “We are not talking about a battle but about coordinated work, trying to maintain the best possible relations with a country with which we are neighbours and we cannot deny that reality,” he said.
“I think we should have a high point of view and not generate those headlines that in the end all they do is keep facing and crisping,” he said. The head of the Spanish Government in our city has stressed that this is a bidirectional work, “it is not that Morocco lays down rules and Spain complies with them”. “That message, however repeated, is not real,” he defended.
“The goal is to achieve full normalization through a series of phases, there is no type of imposition,” he said. “We have been working since 2018 so that commercial customs can be reopened progressively,” he said.
Finally, the Government Delegate has asked the citizens to be cautious about all the information they can obtain through unofficial channels so as not to create uncertainty. “When we have more information, more detailed information, more concrete things, I will be in charge of communicating all the issues that are going to be carried out,” he said.
