At noon today, the Government Delegation welcomed a minute of silence in revulsion of the male murder that took place in the Sevillian town of Estepa, where a 46-year-old woman was shot dead by her partner.
The number of women killed by gender-based violence in 2024 has risen to 41 and 1,286 since 2003. Likewise, the number of minors orphaned by gender violence in our country is 32 this year and 465 since 2013.
Melilla has thus joined the recently approved Protocol of Condemnation and Revulsion against Murders for Gender Violence, agreed at the Council of Ministers on 19 of this month.
Through this minute of silence, the institution headed by Sabrina Moh wanted to condemn the male violence and, in particular, the murder of this Sunday, offering a message of solidarity and support to the families and loved ones of the victim and calling for the unity of the whole society in the fight against the scourge of violence against women.
In addition to the head of the Government Delegation, the Head of the Coordination Unit Against Violence Against Women, Laura Segura; the Councilor for Citizen Security, José Ronda; the Provincial Director of the National Institute of Social Security and the General Treasury, Augusto Hoyo; the Provincial Director of Muface, Pilar Miralles; the Provincial Director of the Social Institute of the Navy, Pedro Pajares; the Local Head of Traffic, José Carlos Ongromero; representatives of National Police and other public representatives.
This action to condemn gender violence has been carried out in all the Delegations, Sub-Delegations of the Government and Island Directorates of the General Administration of the State, with the aim of providing a clear, unified and forceful institutional response to male violence.
The objective is to formalize the procedure to be followed, firstly, to publicly condemn all murders due to gender violence; then to express solidarity with the victims, relatives and people close to them, recognizing the need for attention and support for their recovery; and, thirdly, to offer a coordinated response throughout the Spanish territory.
