The Head of the Coordination Unit Against Violence Against Women of the Government Delegation in Melilla, Laura Segura, has addressed the coordination between entities and with the rest of the administrations in order to continue working on improving protocols of action, especially in cases of unreported violence, as well as in other forms of violence against women.
The Government Delegation hosted yesterday a meeting between the Head of the Unit and the associations and organizations of the city, in which the training of professionals and entities, teachers, equality officers, education officials who approved in the last call, Violet Point in the General Administration of the State and Night Leisure, as well as the next training sessions to be held around November 25, have been informed and valued.
In addition, we have taken stock of the IV Conference on Trafficking in Women and Girls for the Purpose of Sexual Exploitation, as well as the main issues discussed at the Conference.
At the meeting, in which the Red Cross, Save the Children, Women in Equality, Melilla Welcomes, Fiet, UNHCR, ACCEM, CEAR, Red Cross, White Cross, Solidary wheels, Alpha Project and the Crisis Center 24 hours (Human with resources) participated, an assessment was made of the situation of Gender Violence in Melilla during the first half of the year 2024, in terms of the number of complaints and use of State services in the field of gender violence.
As explained by the Head of the Unit, the service dealt with calls to 016 – Telephone Service for Information and Legal Advice on Gender Violence, the number of registrations in the Telephone Service for Attention and Protection for Victims of Gender Violence, number of women with police protection, the number of protection orders and measures for gender violence, active cases in VioGén and distribution by risk levels.
In turn, Segura has reported the number of temporary residence and work authorization concessions for foreign women victims of gender violence and the number of inmates who have served sentences in penitentiaries with crimes of gender violence this 2024.
It has addressed realities and actions carried out in cases of gender violence according to law 1/2004 but also in the work developed in other situations of violence against women (sexual violence, risk of trafficking, trafficking and exploitation, asylum cases, etc. ), highlighting situations that may affect women in situations of special vulnerability and minors.
Feminicides
As Segura has explained, work is being done on the realization of a guide of entities and resources, to be able to publicize the programs and services offered in violence against women.
Other topics addressed were: information about the 24-hour Comprehensive Care Service for Victims of Sexual Violence (24-hour Crisis Center), actions around the Violeta Point, information about the latest awareness campaigns highlighting the last one launched by the Ministry of Equality on pornography. “Let’s talk about pornography.”
Segura has also reported on the Feminicides counted from the Government Delegation against Gender Violence outside the couple. Remembering that they are being communicated by the Ministry of Equality since 2022.
The latest data provided show that 6 women were killed because they were women, outside the scope of the couple and/or ex-couple this year. Regarding the type of feminicide, of the 6 cases counted, 3 were family feminicides (50%), 2 were social feminicides (33.3%) and 1 sexual feminicide (16.7%).
Finally, the meeting has served to inform the Unit of the progress of the Macrostudy on trafficking, sexual exploitation and prostitution of women of the Ministry of Equality and of the Charter addressed by the Ministry of Equality to the Autonomous Communities to speed up the processing of financial aid for victims of sexual violence, etc.
