The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has valued “the fundamental role in the construction of an environment that guarantees public security” of the National Police in Melilla. “You and you,” he said, addressing the women and men of the National Police Force, “play a vital role in the constitutional mandate and your daily commitment is a reflection of the spirit of service that characterizes the body.”
In the institutional event that took place in the early afternoon of today in the Kursaal Theater, on the occasion of the commemoration of the Holy Guardian Angels, Patrons of the National Police Force, the head of the Government Delegation has recognized that, for her, it is an honor to pay tribute “to the work of those who, with dedication and courage, strive every day to guarantee the security and well-being of our society.”
Moh has stressed that the National Police “is an essential institution in our society” whose action “is crucial to maintain peace and protect the rights and freedoms of each person.” Therefore, the important work carried out by its members, “based on constant effort and continuous dedication, does not go unnoticed”. “Every day or every act of service contributes to building a safer future for everyone and achieving the general well-being of the population,” he said.
Commitment to protect and serve
In his speech, he pointed out that crime prevention, the protection of human rights, the management of emergencies or the promotion of peaceful coexistence are some of the most visible functions of the body. And, at this point, it has valued the implementation of strategies carried out to reduce crime, among which are education and awareness programs from early ages, such as the Master Plan of which the National Police participates every year.
However, he stressed that, when we talk about public security, we must not only refer to the repression of crime, but also to ensure that human rights are respected, or promote a culture of peace and peaceful coexistence in order to achieve an increasingly diverse and inclusive, fairer and egalitarian society.
“Dedicating yourself to a profession like the one you have chosen requires a great deal of dedication to public service, it means working for the benefit of the general interest and it involves contributing to the development and improvement of society,” he added. “None of this would be possible if the women and men who are part of this Institution did not carry out their work with empathy, professionalism, solidarity, justice and equity,” he acknowledged.
Furthermore, the Delegate has stressed that being part of the National Police is a source of pride for those who have chosen this profession. “The commitment to protect and serve our society is a satisfaction you experience on a daily basis.” Although that is true, he has pointed out that security is a shared responsibility and, for this reason, he has also thanked and valued the collaboration and coordination between this body with the Civil Guard and the Local Police, as well as the other institutions, entities and agencies that offer you their collaboration.
200 anniversary
In her speech, the highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city referred to the two centuries that have passed since the Real Cédula de Fernando VII, with which the General Police of the Kingdom was born, the first police force with competence throughout the territory and formed by professionals with exclusive dedication.
“This is a special year. A year marked by various activities that you have developed throughout the national territory and, of course, at the local level. Activities framed within the celebration of the 200th anniversary and that serve not only to show citizens the enormous professionalism with which you address the great challenges and challenges, but are another tool to continue promoting a nearby institution,” he said.
For this reason, “today, I would like to thank all the staff of our headquarters for the coordination and implementation of events such as flag hoisting that took place in January or the one held in June, where we were able to pay tribute to all the companions who died in an act of service”, he has exposed and also highlighted the different talks or the exhibition carried out in the bullring and directed to the students of the educational centers of the city, as well as the organization of the solidarity race that takes place in November and that “highlights your most human face again”.
But Sabrina Moh did not want to miss the opportunity to take stock of this last year and the great challenges that this institution has faced. “The staff of each of the units that make up this Headquarters, gives the best of themselves to guarantee the well-being of the population,” he said, referring to devices such as the patronage or Operation Paso del Angolo, which “show the existing coordination with necessary actors, both inside and outside the body.”
It has also addressed the adaptive capacity that they have demonstrated throughout the preparation and implementation of the new infrastructure and systems of the Beni-Inicio border.
Togores Recognition
Despite the fact that “we still have a few months to go”, the Delegate of the Government has taken advantage of her public intervention a few words of affection and make a recognition to the current Superior Chief of Police, José Antonio Togores, for being today the last Patron in which he will be active and who has been practicing as a public servant for 40 years.
“I want to thank you publicly for the service you have provided to the citizens during your professional career, especially these last 3 years in Melilla,” he said.
“Since joining the general academy in 1979 and after 5 years of training, you have demonstrated your commitment to Spain and have used values as important as loyalty, the spirit of sacrifice, companionship or solidarity,” he acknowledged.
For this reason, Moh has thanked him for all the work he has done and has transferred him, “on behalf of all the people who have had the privilege of working with you, that your professionalism will always remain in our memory and that you will always have our admiration and affection”.
Memory and thanks
None of this would be possible, he acknowledged, “without the unconditional support of your family and loved ones.” To them, “who accompany you in your daily work,” he thanked them for “becoming that fundamental and necessary pillar for our agents.”
I also want to show my gratitude to the honorees today, as your effort and dedication has left an indelible mark on the Body. May your example of commitment be a source of inspiration for all of us.
Special memory has had Moh “for all those people who preceded you, but who, unfortunately, are no longer with us.” “The sacrifice and dedication of each and every one of them has been a source of inspiration to write so many pages of your great story,” he said and asked that “all our support and affection reach their relatives and loved ones.”
And, continuing with the chapter of thanks, the Delegate has transferred her best wishes to all those people who, after a lifetime of dedication to the body, retire this year after completing their active service time.
“Your professionalism, loyalty and dedication are the legacy you leave behind for future generations to continue to face the great challenges with determination,” he said.
Finally, he encouraged the women and men of the National Police “to continue working with the same rigour as hitherto, but with that human part that keeps you counting on the support of the Melillense society, and, on that path, you know that you will always count on my support and collaboration.” And, on behalf of the Government of Spain, the Ministry of the Interior and his own, he has conveyed to you his congratulations on the celebration of your anniversary.
