The Minimum Vital Income (IMV) payroll in July reached 2,827 households in Melilla, where 11,350 people live, according to the latest statistics published by the National Social Security Institute (INSS). The average amount of the benefit is 584.52 euros per household and, overall, this month’s payroll has amounted to 1,850,630 euros.
In the month of July, there are 651 active benefits more than there were a year ago, which means an increase of 29.92%. These households are home to 2,791 beneficiaries more than those registered in July 2023 (+32.61%).
In cumulative terms since June 2020, when this benefit was launched, in the midst of a pandemic, the IMV has reached 4,200 Melillense homes and has protected the 16,767 people who are part of them. 8,398 are boys, girls and adolescents, 50% of the total.
Since the entry into force of this policy, Social Security has allocated 65.46 million euros to pay the payroll of the IMV benefits in Melilla.
The IMV is a benefit aimed at preventing the risk of poverty and social exclusion of people who live alone or are integrated into a coexistence unit and lack basic economic resources. In addition, one of its main objectives is to address child poverty.
The beneficiaries of the IMV are also characterized by having a strong female profile. In July, 1,741 of the Melilla headlines were for women, compared to 1,086 men.
