The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has stressed that you can not frivolize with such a sensitive and complex issue as that of migration, while at the same time asking that you stop criminalizing the professionals of the Civil Guard, in their difficult task of guarding the borders.
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city has recalled that, every year, during the summer, Melilla suffers a great migratory pressure by sea and that the work carried out by the State Security Forces and Corps is a complicated task. And as an example he has reported that, in a single week, more than 300 people have tried to access our city by sea.
In any case, Moh has recalled that this pressure, compared to last year, has decreased. Thus during the month of August 2023, there were 1,023 attempts of entry by sea while the same month of this year the number of attempts of entry has decreased to 736.

“This issue,” he said, referring to migration, “is a drama, obviously, and therefore, the Civil Guard does this work that it is entrusted with with all the professionalism that they always show and what we have done during the time we have been in government is to try to provide sufficient resources.”
Thus, he referred to a recent visit to the Group of Specialists in Underwater Activities (GEAS) of the Civil Guard, in which “we were able to check the arrival of new material for these professionals so that they can continue to provide this service with the maximum guarantees”, referring to wetsuits, vests, boots… “These professionals demand more means and we are always in the business of providing the State Security Forces with means”, he said.
In addition, he recalled the creation of a specialized unit in Melilla, in reference to the Swimming, Intervention and Rescue Unit (NIR), “which also do a wonderful job in the whole issue of coast surveillance and rescue”.
Finally, the Delegate has been in favor of increasing the staff for these units through the appropriate formations and has advanced that work is being done so that they continue to be carried out to continue providing the necessary staff.
