The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has called on the Melillense society “to add, support and give warmth” to the National Police Force in the event for the Day of the Victims of Terrorism in the National Police that will take place this Sunday at 8:00 pm in Plaza España.
The head of the Government Delegation and the Superior Chief of Police in Melilla, José Antonio Togores, announced this morning this act that has been established by a resolution of the General Directorate of the Police so that, every year, this event will take place on June 16, the date on which in 1981 the terrorist band ETA murdered María José García Sánchez, who had joined the Police in the first promotion of female police officers in 1979.
“It is a tribute, an act that we are going to perform every year in all the cities of Spain where the National Police provides service,” said Togores, who has counted 188 police officers who, during these years, have died victims of terrorist actions, two of them born in Melilla.
“The National Police has played an important role, a priority role in the fight against terrorism, especially against the terrorism of ETA, and also of other groups that have acted in Spain”, he said and pointed out that “we continue to have it”. “We are aware that we are on a level 4 anti-terrorist alert, that the threat is there, now it is another different threat, but it is still a threat and we have to be on the front line,” he stressed.
“We are there to guarantee citizens their security,” said the Chief Executive, who made it clear that terrorism “has been a terrible scourge and has done a lot of damage.”
Moh has valued the work done by the women and men of the National Police, “which is such a vocational profession and which, on many occasions, pay even with their lives to defend the security and integrity of the citizenry.”
Therefore, the Delegate has stressed how important it is that we put on the calendar on June 16 to carry out this commemoration and to pay tribute to all those who gave their lives in the act of service as a result of terrorism. “Let it not be erased from memory and memory, these 188 people killed as a result of terrorist acts,” he stressed and thanked the Superior Police Headquarters for organizing this act.
