A total of 350 officers from the National Police and the Civil Guard will serve for Operation Strait Pass (OPE) in Melilla, as reported by the Government Delegate, Sabrina Moh.
“We have 143 personnel of the National Police and we will receive another 40 people who are also going to join and, as for the Civil Guard, there are 167 agents, of which 15 have been transferred from the peninsula to be able to serve in the different units,” he said.
The head of the Spanish Government in our city, in statements to the media, referred to the OPE, which has begun today. In particular, Operation Departure has been advanced two days, on the occasion of the festival of Aid El kebir, so it is expected that there will be a quite important movement, such as the one that, in fact, is already being seen these days, he has pointed out.
The main novelty of this year, is the reception of the new work of the border, which the new facilities are going to start operating from tomorrow in Beni-Enza.
Moh recalled that last week the Territorial Committee to Coordinate the OPE was formally launched, although it had been working for months on this issue “since we have to have important coordination with other agencies and entities, such as the local administration, with which we have been working to condition, as every year, the surrounding land and be able to provide extra services due to the increase in the influx in this area.” Thus, he has referred to the implementation of a greater number of services, points of light, of water, of terraces, shadows…
In addition, the Committee has addressed issues related to the Port Authority, and the Maritime Station, with the opening of this 24-hour infrastructure to be able to serve passengers during the month of August and, if possible, also previous weeks, as well as pre-shipments and shaded areas.
The Delegate has also highlighted the involvement and collaboration of the Imgesa, since once again they are going to provide a service of 24 hours 7 days a week to be able to attend cases that could occur in the area of the Port.
Moh conveyed his thanks “to all the agents involved, to all the agencies, institutions and administrations that have collaborated so that this year we can coordinate the OPE as we do every year.”
