The Government Delegate, Sabrina Moh, has attended the State Coordination and Management Committee (CECOD) of Operation Strait Pass (OPE), in which the OPE Special Plan has been approved.
The meeting, which took place this Friday in Madrid, was chaired by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Susana Crisóstomo, accompanied by the Director General of Civil Protection and Emergencies, Virginia Barcones, to address a plan that will facilitate a “swift and effective” response to the demand for services and infrastructure that Operation Paso del Angolo represents, “the largest movement of people and vehicles by sea in Europe and, possibly, in the world”.
The start of the OPE has been advanced this year to June 13, two days before the usual date, in anticipation of the increase in circulatory movements that occur before the Feast of Sacrifice, which is celebrated on June 17. The operation will end on September 15 and will be divided, as in previous years, into Exit Phase and Return Phase.
The OPE 2024 Special Plan includes an extensive device that includes a Fleet Plan, the central axis of the operation, which will establish the number of ships and their capacity, as well as the number of trips necessary to ensure the smooth passage of vehicles and passengers. The provincial coordination plans and each of the nine participating ports are also added: Algeciras and Tarifa, in Cádiz; Almería, Málaga, Motril (Granada), Alicante, Valencia, Ceuta and Melilla; as well as specific road safety plans.
The Ministry of the Interior has also assisted representatives of the Secretariat of State for Security, the Directorates-General for Civil Protection and Emergencies and Traffic, as well as the National Police and the Civil Guard.
Officials from the Department of National Security and Presidency of the Government, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Territorial Policy, Ecological Transition and the Demographic and Health Challenge, as well as the Government Delegations in Andalusia, the Valencian Community, Ceuta and Melilla, and the Government Subdelegation in Cadiz have also participated.
