The PROA+ Educational Orientation, Advancement and Enrichment Program will be extended until 2028, as announced today in Melilla by the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría. More than 3,600 centers throughout the country participate in this reinforcement program aimed at improving the educational results of students with more difficulties.
“The PROA+ program has proven to be an effective tool for the transformation of schools, especially those with a higher percentage of vulnerable students,” said Alegría. “PROA+ is a key program. Therefore, it will be extended until 2028 with funding of 105 million euros per year from the European Social Fund”, he added.
In total, 420 million euros will be invested so that “the students with the most difficulties improve their results and thus reduce early educational abandonment and excessive repetition of the course”, in the words of the minister. Thanks to programs such as PROA+, in recent years the rate of early abandonment of education has been reduced by ten points, from 23.6% in 2013 to 13.6% in 2023.
Pilar Alegría has made this announcement in Melilla, which has 16 PROA+ educational centers and which will receive about 700,000 euros for the continuity of the program. In addition, the minister has highlighted the impulse to Vocational Training in the city, which already has almost 1,800 students and 51 training cycles offered.
During her visit, the minister has inaugurated the CEIP Encarna León, a leading educational center with capacity for 1,000 students and 36 units, which has opened its doors this week with 315 students of Infant and Primary.
The event was also attended by the delegate of the Government in Melilla, Sabrina Moh, and Encarna León, writer and teacher for 40 years in the autonomous city and who gives name to this new center.
