This morning, Vocational Training students from our city went to Madrid to participate in the Spainskills national championship, a biennial competition in which the professional skills acquired during their training must be demonstrated.
Organized by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD), the Spainskills aims to promote and disseminate VET as well as stimulate the exchange of ideas and new aspects of the different productive sectors between students, teachers and companies.
These students, accompanied by their tutoring teachers, will compete in eleven professional profiles: electrical installations, florist, hairdressing, aesthetics, automotive technology, kitchen, refrigeration and air conditioning, ICT network systems management, social and health care, window dressing and visual marketing and bakery. In addition, the profile of Technician in Pharmacy and Parapharmacy will also participate in demonstration mode. The participating centers are the CIFP ‘Reina Victoria Eugenia’, the IES ‘Rusadir’, the IES ‘Juan Antonio Fernández’ and the IES ‘Leopoldo Queipo’.
The Melilla delegation also attends with representatives of the Provincial Directorate of the MEFPyD in Melilla, headed by the Provincial Director, Juan Ángel Berbel, together with the team leader and the regional coordinator, among others, as well as several directors of the participating centers.
The competition begins tomorrow, April 9, with the accreditation of the participants and the inaugural ceremony, where students from all the Autonomous Communities and Cities take to the stage with their respective flags. Once they make the promise of fair play, the competition is inaugurated, which takes place on 10, 11 and 12 days in the IFEMA pavilion in Madrid.
The students will have to solve different tests related to their professional profile without any help, while the members of the jury assess their skills.
On Saturday, April 13, the award of medals is celebrated at the closing ceremony. The delegation of Melilla hopes to obtain a medal this year, as in some previous edition that obtained gold, silver and bronze in specialties such as socio-sanitary care, electricity and a special mention in cooking.
The Spainskills competition spreads fundamental values with the application of its code of ethics: integrity, transparency, justice, cooperation and innovation, but in addition, it is a unique experience for students since it allows direct contact with what would be a real work environment, with the latest technical and technological innovations.
