At the end of January 2024, the number of unemployed persons registered with the Public Service of State Employment (SEPE) of Melilla rose by 284 persons (3.3%) compared to the previous month. Thus, the registered unemployment stood at 8,815 people in our city, which represents, compared to January 2023, a decrease of 156 people (-1.74%).
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has recalled that, historically, January is not a good month in terms of data for employment, but, nevertheless, today we have fewer unemployed than a year ago.
Not only that, the highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city has highlighted that it is 1,513 unemployed less than when the PP ruled.
As for the contracts that have been closed during the past month, the figure amounts to 1,305, which means 34 more than in December, but, above all, the Delegate has pointed out that more than a third of them are indefinite contracts.
“Before the entry into force of the Labor Reform of the Government of Pedro Sánchez, indefinite contracts represented only 8% in our country. In the month that we have just finished, they have involved 35.8% of the contracts of our city and 42% nationwide,” he said. “The commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez is to continue working to achieve the objective of creating the maximum possible, stable and quality employment,” he said.
With regard to unemployment benefits, there are 3,229 melillenses who benefit from them, either by contributory benefit, unemployment benefit or active income, and whose average amount per beneficiary is 966 euros per month.
As far as affiliation to Social Security is concerned, Melilla has 24,291 members, these are 185 members more than just a year ago. Of this number of members, 19,897 are from the general regime, 4,302 are autonomous and 92 belong to the regime of the sea.
