“During the years 2012 to 2017, the PP Government took out 60 teaching positions for Melilla. A measure of 12 places per year. This Government, in the same period of time, that is, in the 5 years from 2018 to 2023, has obtained a total of 424 places for teachers, that is, an average of 84.8”.
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, in her appearance today, has referred to the educational subject and has also valued the quota of 300 teachers that has materialized the progressive Executive headed by Pedro Sánchez, which, in addition to the educational improvement that it represents, translates into an investment of 12 million euros per year, something that also has an impact on the economy of Melilla.
But the head of the Delegation also referred to the significant drop in the ratio of students per classroom that has been experienced in these 5 years of government. In Infantil, with the PP Government, the classrooms reached 30.1 students, today the number of students is 22.4, a drop of almost 8 points.
A reduction in the ratio that has also occurred in the other educational stages. Thus, in Primary, it has gone from ratios of 29.7 students per classroom at the time of the PP, to 25.2 students per classroom now. And, in Secondary, it has gone from 32.2 students per classroom, to the current 28.5 students per class.
Moh has also revealed the improvement that Melilla has experienced in terms of educational abandonment. “When the People’s Party was in government it was 29.5%, now it is 12%”, he welcomed, and stressed that the improvement in education is due to the commitment of this Government to have more teachers, less ratio and higher educational quality.
In addition, he recalled that there is a 70% increase in investment in scholarships for the study, despite the fact that this initiative of the Government of Spain has counted on the ‘no’ of the PP.
Health copay
The Government Delegate has pointed out that what happened with Education during the PP Government is applicable to the different areas of State management.
Thus, he recalled that in Health, the PP implemented the pharmaceutical copayment, paralyzed the works of the University Hospital, carried out contracts of two and three days to the health professionals…
Faced with this model, the current Government of Pedro Sánchez has stabilized the staffs, with contracts of 2 years, has made a bet for the modernization of the health centers of Cabrerizo and the Primary Care Emergency Service (SUAP) and “is going to inaugurate and put into operation the new University Hospital, because Melilla matters to us.”
