The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has highlighted the “unprecedented” entry of almost 80 million euros approved yesterday by the Council of Ministers to tender the new maritime contract between our city and the peninsula.
In an interview given this morning to Televisión Melilla, the highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city has highlighted the fact that the biannual contract has gone from 22.3 million euros to 39.3 million euros, extendable for two more years, which would mean practically 79 million euros.
A very important amount, explained the head of the Government Delegation, that “what comes to the citizen of Melilla is that we have taken up all the concerns and that this Government is sensitive to the question of Melilla and our remoteness from the rest of the national territory.”
Moh recalled that the previous maritime contracts carried out by the Executive of Pedro Sánchez already contained significant improvements over the previous ones, something that is demonstrated by the fact that the Melillenses now enjoy boats that had never operated before in our city.
Some improvements, explained Moh, which are the result both of communication with the shipping companies and of the Government’s interest in improving the sheets and all this is possible because they have a significant budgetary endowment.
Some improvements in which the Government of Pedro Sánchez will continue to influence as the Delegate has formed the concessionaire will have a minimum allocation of two ships less than 5 years old.
Connections and rotations
When the documents come out, the citizens will be able to see in detail the improvements, but Moh has told the Melillense citizens that the Government of Spain “is sensitive to the issue of communications and connections”. And at this point he has recalled that, the Motril line is included in the obligation of public services thanks to the Executive of Pedro Sánchez, despite the fact that the PP Government always said that it was something that could not be done.
“We have increased the budget to have better boats and better conditions,” said Moh, who has said that we will have guaranteed a series of weekly rotations and that they will increase in the periods with greater influx such as Holy Week, bridges, holidays, Christmas… or a reinforcement will materialize when necessary, as has been done during Operation Strait Pass (OPE). In fact, the contract will pick up, at the very least. 6 weekly rotations between Malaga-Melilla and 3 between Motril-Melilla and Almeria-Melilla.
