The Coordination Unit Against Violence Against Women of the Government Delegation in Melilla will carry out the Conference “Training in Gender Violence for Security Forces and Bodies”, which will take place next Tuesday, November 14, in the offices of the Command of the Civil Guard of Melilla in the morning.
As reported by the Head of the Unit, Laura Segura, this training is part of the activities that the Government Delegation has scheduled for November, around the International Day for the Elimination of Gender Violence.
This Day is aimed especially at the training in gender violence of the State Security Forces and Local Police and to which the other institutions and entities involved in the fight against gender violence have also been invited.
“Its main objectives are to meet the demand for training, retraining and specialization, which is so necessary for the agents involved in the fight against gender violence, but also to contribute to the sensitization and training of other agents who are not in the specialized teams,” said Segura.
He recalled that the Security Forces and Corps “have a fundamental role in eradicating this violence against women.” “They know that their support goes beyond the research and protection provided. The personalized treatment and empathy with the victims are part of this demanding and committed work and involves training on gender violence, its causes and the tremendous consequences and consequences suffered by women and children who suffer from it,” he said.
In addition, it has indicated that it is key to coordinate the actions and work in collaboration with all the actors involved in order to make the protection of victims more effective, prevent gender violence and control the execution of the judicial measures adopted.
“If there is one thing that characterizes violence against women, it is its persistence and its extension, women suffer violence in all parts of the world, it is systemic violence and it constitutes a structural violation of human rights that has its roots in historical discrimination,” he said.
“There are many advances, but there are also great challenges facing the fight for gender equality and against violence against women, since it is one of the greatest challenges facing our society,” said Segura, who stressed that training professionals “is essential to continue moving towards the ultimate goal of protecting the human rights of women and girls and achieving full equality.”
