The Coordination Unit against Violence Against Women of the Government Delegation in Melilla has launched a contest Children and Youth for Equality and Against Gender Violence aimed at students of all educational stages and all educational centers in Melilla.
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, and the Head of the Unit, Laura Segura, have presented, in public appearance, this contest, which, under the hashtag #RompeEl⦅⦆ SeAcabó, aims to bring equality and the prevention of gender violence to the youngest and do so in their language.
As noted by the highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city, the contest has as its ultimate objective to promote equality between women and men and prevent violence against women.
“We know of the effort that has been developed in this area within the city centers, therefore, we want to contribute with this activity to the promotion of equality and to the prevention and fight against gender violence,” he said.
“We want to make visible, sensitize and raise awareness among the students of our city about the reality of gender violence that exists in Melilla and throughout the world and that has its origin in inequality between men and women”, said Moh, who has made it clear that it seeks to increase awareness and sensitization on the importance of supporting victims and in breaking the silence before any evidence or suspicion of gender violence.
Although the Delegate has recognized that it is important to carry out awareness campaigns for all age groups and for society in general, she has pointed out the importance of co-educating the girls, boys and young people of today “to achieve tomorrow a Melilla without machismo and without violence”.
“We know of the effort that has been developed in this area within the city centers, so we want to contribute with this activity to the promotion of equality and to the prevention and fight against gender violence,” he said.
“Educating in Equality is to train our young people in respect for gender and gender diversity, to live together peacefully and to manage and resolve conflicts peacefully,” he said.
2 categories and 3 modalities
As Segura explained, to carry out this contest, the collaboration of the Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Professional Training (MEyFP), through the Educational Programs Unit (UPE), and the School of Arts, which has designed the poster, has been counted.
The work can be carried out by reflecting on various issues related to Equality and Gender Violence on issues such as the detection of violence against women in the environment or in social networks and new technologies; actions to eliminate violence against women in society; the prevention of gender violence, sexism and inequality; the promotion of relations based on gender equality, respect and tolerance; promoting support networks in the fight against violence against women...
“The messages can be directed both to the victim of gender violence and to the people around them so that they break with the silence and can emerge from the violence,” said Segura.
To this end, two categories for participation have been established. One for Primary and Special Education and a second for Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training, Adult Education Center and special regime teachings.
In Primary and Special Education it will be possible to participate with three modalities: Comic, Drawing and Letter or email; while in the second category, the modalities are Comic, Haikus and Letter, email or WhatsApp conversation.
The deadline for submission of works will be open until November 15 at 2:00 p.m. and each school will send the works to the Government Delegation in Melilla, in addition each work will be accompanied by authorization for participation in the contest, since the participants are minors.
The works will be presented to the Jury anonymously and the jury’s decision will be communicated, around November 25, to the educational centers whose students are awarded.
As for the prizes. Each modality will have a first, second and third prize, being a total of 18 prizes that will be awarded, and that will consist of a tablet and diploma.
The awards ceremony will take place in the Government Delegation around the 25th and the specific date and time will be announced soon both through the media, as well as on the web and social networks of the Government Delegation in Melilla.
In addition, the bases of the contest have been published on the Delegation website and sent to all the centers, although any citizen can access them thanks to the QR that appears on the poster advertising the contest.
Segura has made it clear that they are aware of the importance of prevention from the earliest ages and the eradication of all the inequality “that is the origin of violence towards women”. Something, he said, that “has its fundamental pillar in education”.
For this reason, he said, “we launched this campaign of prevention and awareness against gender violence for educational centers, with which we intend to bring equality and the prevention of gender violence to young people and do so in their language and from here we encourage participation.”
