The data was offered this morning by the Head of the Coordination Unit against Violence Against Women of the Government Delegation in Melilla, Laura Segura, in a public appearance, which has stressed that male violence “is a serious violation of women’s rights and coordination between the different agents involved and assistance devices is fundamental.” In addition, he has stressed that, in the fight against gender violence, “the involvement and awareness of all citizens” is key.
In his statement to the media, he reported that, according to data published on the website of the Ministry of the Interior in its monthly statistics, the active cases in April were 212; 221, in May; 219, in June; 212, in July; 231, in August; and September 229.
To the 229 cases active in the VioGén System in Melilla as of September 30, 2023, we must add the 2,139 cases inactivated from 2007 to this date, which makes a total of 2,368 total cases and 2,202 total victims in our city from 2007 to the present.
By risk levels, 109 are the active cases of unappreciated risk, 101 of low irrigation, 19 of medium risk and no case of high or extreme risk. Meanwhile, of the active cases, there are 147 with minors - of which 31 are in a situation of vulnerability - and 17 cases of special relevance.
Regarding the number of women with police protection, Segura has explained that the evolution by months during this second quarter of 2023 has gone from 103 in April; 110 in May; and 107 in June, while in the months of July and August, they have been 105 and 117 respectively.
As for the number of protection orders and measures for gender-based violence, data from the General Council of the Judiciary, which are as of March 31, show a total of 11 initiated, 8 adopted and 3 denied.

In her statement to the media, Laura Segura reported that, in terms of the evolution of complaints, the first quarter of the year closed with 66 complaints, with an increase of 22.22% compared to the first quarter of 2022, where 54 complaints of gender violence were registered.
The second quarter ended with 75 complaints, an increase of 7.14% compared to the second quarter of 2022, where 70 complaints of gender violence were registered.
And the third quarter was closed with a total of 102 complaints, 33 complaints in July, in August 37 and in September 32. This represents an increase of 17.24% with respect to the third quarter of 2022 where 87 complaints were filed.
There were 243 complaints filed in total up to the date of September, pending updating with the data for the month of October.
Regarding the analysis of the use of existing State services and with the data up to August 31, the Head of the Unit has detailed the calls to 016 and explained that, since January 1, 81 calls have been received, of which 66 were made by the user herself (81.4%), 12 by relatives or persons close to her (14%), 1 by others (1.2%) and 2 not recorded (2.4%).
The second quarter ended with 27 calls at 016, compared to 43 calls received in the same period of the year 2022, which represents a decrease of 37.21%.

With regard to the number of inmates who have served sentences in penitentiaries with crimes of gender violence as of 31 August, the number is 10 persons.
With regard to the concessions of temporary residence and work authorization of foreign women victims of gender violence per year of resolution, 3 have been granted in April, 1 May and 1 in June, this year a total of 10 authorizations have been granted.
Finally, Laura Segura highlighted that in Melilla there have been no fatalities due to gender violence since 2016, accounting for 5 women killed since 2005.
