“You have worked tirelessly and your work has contributed to the construction of the constitutional Spain in which we live and which allows all citizens to freely exercise our rights and enjoy our freedoms as set out in our Constitution. And all of them have always been based on solid principles that you demonstrate day by day and that have contributed to building the good image of the Civil Guard”
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, in her address to the act of the Patron of the Civil Guard, has pointed out that today should be a day to commemorate the work and dedication of the women and men who form the Benemérita “in the crucial role that you carry out providing well-being to our society”, but also to remember the “noble legacy” of the Duke of Ahumada “something that you have kept alive and endowed with meaning during these 179 years since your foundation”.
“I know that you will continue to be willing to respond to the different scenarios that arise, that you will continue to convert the great challenges into your own goals and that you will continue to focus on the improvement of a public service that continues to contribute to the achievement of an increasingly fair and egalitarian, plural and diverse Spain, safe and free,” he said.
And all of this, he added, “developing your work faithful to your duty, being in danger, with prudence without weakness, with firmness without violence and preserving honor as the main currency.”
Moh has assured that the civil guards of the 21st century are the “heirs and transmitters of a tradition that has remained intact with the passage of time, a betrayal that is not incompatible with your continuous evolution, a traction forged on the basis of the principles that your founder imprinted indelibly to the Institute, principles that must continue to be preserved forever.”
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city has emphasized the essential public function of the Civil Guard for the welfare and security of citizens. “Your work ranges from preventing and combating crime to protecting citizens’ rights and freedoms,” he said.
130 in Melilla
Moh has used his address to highlight the work that this institution has done throughout history. Thus, he recalled that it was on November 1, 1893 when, for the first time, the Civil Guard was present in Melilla. A presence, he said, that has lasted until today. “It is 130 years that you are constantly taking to the service of the people of Melilla,” he said.
A time, he has apostilled, in which “you have forged a relationship of mutual affection and trust thanks to your spirit of sacrifice, dedication, professionalism and all the values that the Duke of Ahumada conceived for you and those that you have been demonstrating since your origin”.
One origin, the Delegate recalled, which dates from 1844, so they have been 179 years “providing service and knowing how to adapt to the new challenges, but without losing your original essence”.
Sabrina Moh stressed that if an institution like Benemérita has been able to endure for so long it is thanks to “the dedication and commitment of the companions who preceded you” and if it has been forged “it has been for your loyalty to serve and protect Spanish society and the professionalism with which you have done it from your constitution to our days, with that innate ability to adapt to the future, but preserving the benevolent spirit of the body”.
Recognition and Appreciation
In her speech, the head of the Government Delegation referred to the work that the professionals of the Civil Guard carry out in our city, as pointed out by immigration, “where you play your role, always maintaining the balance between the defense of our territorial integrity and the sensitivity and empathy that this type of action requires.”
For this reason, he has conveyed to them his recognition and gratitude for the work they do on land and sea, even more so when the figures “endorse the good results of your complex work in this field”.
But Moh also congratulated them on the achievements they have made in terms of citizen security, for the fight against drug trafficking, against human trafficking, computer crimes and for all the work they carry out in their daily lives and that “serves to continue building a Melilla and a better Spain”.
A task, he said, that translates “in making everyone exercise their rights, that we are free and that we feel safe”.
“The civil guards have always set aside the best of themselves, to the point that many comrades have heroically given up their own lives, so I want to have a very special memory for all those who gave their lives in the act of service and who know that their memory will remain indelible in the memory of the Civil Guard,” he said, while at the same time transferring his affection and affection for the family and friends of those who have died this year.
“The Civil Guard is a clear example of commitment to public service, something closely linked to the passion you have for your profession and that makes you find the equity between complying with the law and the need for exemplary behavior in and out of service,” said the Delegate.
A path, he added, in which they have the support of the National Police, the Local Police, the Armed Forces, the Defense Delegation as well as innumerable institutions, entities, agencies and people “who contribute their collaboration when required”.
In this chapter of thanks, the Delegate has also had words of recognition to the relatives and loved ones of the civil guards for the support and understanding they provide to these professionals.
At the same time, he congratulated the honored ones for a “just and deserved recognition of your performance and a stimulus to continue persevering in your functions,” and thanked those who went to the reserve or retreat for their service and dedication, while asking them to enjoy their well-deserved rest.
Moh, has conveyed his congratulations to the women and men who are part of the Benemérita on behalf of the Government of Spain, the Ministry of Interior and his own.
