The Government Delegate, Sabrina Moh, has conveyed her thanks and congratulations to all the agents involved in Operation Strait Pass (OPE) 2023 for the work carried out, an operation in which coordination and collaboration have prevailed.
Thus, he has conveyed his gratitude to State Security Forces and Bodies, Local Police, Maritime Station, Port Authority, Civil Protection of the Delegation, INGESA, External Health, Autonomous City…
The working group held a meeting this morning at the headquarters of the Government Delegation that served to make an analysis and a balance sheet of the OPE in order to draw conclusions and as a starting point for 2024 in order to propose improvements.
At the meeting, the participants saw the weak and strong points of this year. Thus, the Delegate has set an example as far as the former are concerned, the lack of land in the vicinity of the border crossing, especially with regard to Operation Exit. “It is important that we can have an area equipped for the bagging of vehicles,” he acknowledged, and pointed out that his lack this year has meant a greater difficulty in carrying out the work by the Local Police.
Improvements and new features
The Delegate has advanced that the objective of having this unit is oriented not only to the OPE but also “365 days a year” so that the citizens of Melilla “can enjoy more comfortable spaces and conditioned to current needs”.
The meeting addressed the coordination that must exist between the Autonomous City and the Government Delegation so that everyone, within the scope of their competences, can carry out the necessary work for traffic management, both at the border and, in Operation Return, in the port part of the Maritime Station.
At the same time, the issue of boat schedules and the need for a temporary space to be able to manage shipments and disembarks, but also to be able to respond in the best possible way to the needs of the Melillense citizens or the passenger in general, has been addressed.
Another of the issues addressed have been the improvements that have been occurring this year, such as the conditioning of the port infrastructure, with the installation of tents, or the services that Ingesa provides in the port itself to relieve congestion in the city’s Urgencies.
“I believe that the meeting has been very positive,” said Moh, who has advanced that they have been placed at subsequent meetings and the creation of a working group to be able to address in a thematic way each of the issues that have been addressed throughout the development of the OPE “to be able to give concrete and structural answers, which can be prolonged in time to provide this service and that the Melilla citizens have a response according to their needs.”
In her statement to the media, the Government Delegate explained that for the OPE 2024, the new Entry/Exit System (EES) will be in operation, which will entail some changes in the organization of pedestrian traffic and, in addition, that it will entail some actions to adapt to this new reality.
