The project to implement the European Entry/Exit System (EES) at the Beni-Enza border crossing is becoming a reality.
The Delegate of Government in Melilla, Sabrina Moh, has reported that the construction of the automated entry and exit system of the Beni-Onset pass is developing rapidly and the infrastructure is expected to be completed before the end of the year. “We are now focused on the equipment to get it up and running as soon as possible,” he said in an interview with COPE.
The construction of the automated entry and exit system for the Beni-Start Pass, a project coordinated with the members of the European Union, aims to build three facilities that will increase the effectiveness and security of border controls. “We want to catch up as a Spanish and European city with the Entry/Exit System,” said the Delegate.
Moh has explained that it is necessary to wait for the completion of all the facilities to be put into operation. “It is a relatively fast construction because they are modules manufactured from the peninsula and, therefore, the assembly is taking place more quickly,” explained the Delegate.
Starting with the Moroccan entry building to Spain, the head of the Government Delegation pointed out that it is practically finished. As for the infrastructure of departure from Spain to Morocco, the construction is going at a good pace. The third, located in the outdoor parking area, is being cemented, and will house a vehicle inspection area for the Civil Guard.
Moh added that the site where the camera center is to be located is also being reformed. “In this space, we need to finalize details and we are waiting for the technological package,” he said.
The automation of passenger control processes will prevent the passage of people who fail to comply with the entry conditions or who exceed the authorized period of stay. It will also combat identity theft, contribute to the prevention, detection and investigation of crimes of terrorism or other serious crimes, obtain information in the investigations of such crimes related to persons who have crossed the external borders of the European Union and the fraudulent use of travel documents.
