“Security is synonymous with freedom.” The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has appeared before the media and explained that the police device that has been deployed has “a fundamental objective” that is none other than that of Melilla “to be an example of how to vote in freedom”.
The highest representative of the Government of Spain has exercised her right to vote this lunchtime at the Reina Sofía Special School in the company of her husband and son, as well as the Vice-President of the City, Gloria Rojas.
Moh, who has explained that the 87 tables have been constituted in the marked time without any significant incident, has reported that the device is made up of 594 agents of both the National Police and Local Police and Civil Guard, who are ensuring that everything works well within the polling stations, as well as in the rest of the city. “We have assembled a device divided into four sections and they are serving everywhere in the city,” he said.
Local police officers are inside the schools themselves, “where they will provide all the necessary support so that the day takes place in the best possible way.” To these troops are added the allocations outside the centers and in different points of the city “so that, if there were any incident, they can go as soon as possible and solve it in the best way”.
The Delegate has reported an extraordinary endowment of the National Police Force, made up of 50 more officers, who have come to serve our city during the day to have greater capacity to respond, if necessary. “As you can see, everything is perfectly coordinated and designed to have a day in which the citizens of Melilla can vote in freedom,” he said.
On a possible challenge, Sabrina Moh has indicated that work has been done intensively and in a coordinated manner so that there are no grounds for a challenge. In fact, he has acknowledged that challenging the electoral process “would be a failure as a society” and has emphasized all the measures that have been developed to ensure that this electoral process is given full guarantees.
Vote in urn and by mail
As an incident, the Delegate explained that there were some people who wanted to go to the polling stations to vote in ballot boxes, despite the fact that they had requested it by mail.
At this point, he stressed that this is not possible and that people who have requested the vote by mail even if they have not materialized it, can no longer cast their vote in the ballot box. “We know that of the more than 11,700 Melillenses who requested the vote by mail, not all have materialized, but what those who have not materialized, cannot do today in the ballot box,” he said.
The Delegate has called for participation. “Today’s day is very important – he insisted – because the citizens have to express their decision and decide which people want to represent us in the Assembly,” he argued. From there, he has apostilled “that we all exercise the right to vote and that we continue to watch and work to pamper and care for our democracy.”
Moh has made public his thanks to the media for the work they are doing throughout today, which adds to the work they have been doing all these days to inform the citizens of everything that is happening.
He has also had words of thanks to all the representatives of the Administration, to the citizens who are at the table today, to the staff of the Post and to the professionals of the State Security Forces and Corps, for ensuring the safety of all “and that we can all vote in freedom”.
