The Temporary Immigrant Stay Center (CETI) in Melilla hosted this morning a Day of Awareness and Action against Gender Violence given by the Head of the Coordination Unit Against Violence Against Women, Laura Segura.
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, together with the Director of the CETI, Pablo Martínez, has inaugurated this day aimed at the staff of the center in order to implement their role in the prevention, detection and action against any form of violence against women that develops in it.
The highest representative of the Government in our city has pointed out that, beyond the fact that the number of residents in the CETI is greater or smaller at certain times, having this training is key.
In his speech, Moh recalled that violence against women is a problem common to all countries but that, in the case of migrants, violence against women “presents a more complex problem due to their situation of special vulnerability.”
In this regard, the Delegate has referred to the situation of multiple discrimination that they may suffer because they are women and also foreigners, to which can be added other factors such as race, religion, being in an irregular situation, lack of social networks or support, cultural differences, linguistic barriers…
Moh thanked the management of the CETI for their collaboration in the organization of the day, the workers of the center for their participation and interest and Laura Segura for her magnificent task.
Today’s Day has been held in two blocks, one and a half hours each, in which tools have been addressed so that these professionals can be part of the prevention, detection and action against any form of violence against women that develops in this first reception center.
International and national legislation has been addressed in the field of male violence, causes of gender violence, types, cycle of violence in the area of the couple and ex couple, consequences, etc.
Contents have also been developed regarding the resources for the protection and care of victims of gender violence and the rest of gender violence will be addressed - sexual violence, exploitation, trafficking, forced marriages…
