The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has reported that more than 6,000 students from Melilla will be able to benefit from the post-compulsory studies scholarships convened by the Ministry of Education and Professional Training (MEyFP) for the academic year 2023-2024.
“The Executive of Pedro Sánchez is the government that has most opted for Education in the history of democracy and his commitment to scholarships and study grants is not the same”, he made clear in reference to the departure of more than 2,500 million euros in scholarships that will benefit one million students throughout the country.
This is an increase of 70% compared to the previous Government. “The average amount of this aid will be 1,730 euros for non-university students and 3,130 euros for university students,” he said.
In addition, among the novelties of this call is the increase from 1,600 to 2,500 euros in residence grants for post-compulsory studies, which will benefit about 125,000 students throughout Spain. A measure, said Moh, which will have a special impact on families whose sons and daughters have to travel to other locations to study, so, in Melilla, he added, “it is going to be very well received”.
The highest representative of the Government of the Nation in our city has referred to the important help for families that these scholarships entail. Thus, in addition to the aforementioned residency assistance, there are amounts of up to 1,700 euros for both university and non-university students depending on the student’s income; or a scholarship to cover the amount of the university tuition credits from which the student enrolls for the first time in the academic year 2023-2024.
But not only that, the Delegate has explained that there are also grants linked to academic excellence with amounts ranging from 50 to 125 euros for both university and non-university students, and a basic scholarship for non-university students of 300 or 350 euros for scholarship holders who study Basic Degree Training Cycles.
To this aid is added a variable amount for the different applicants in which factors such as the average mark of the student’s file and the family income influence and whose minimum amount will be 60 euros.
400 euros for special needs
Moh has also highlighted the creation of a new universal subsidy of 400 euros per year that will receive about 240,000 students with special educational needs.
This is an aid for students at non-university educational levels who demonstrate a disability of at least 33%, severe behavioral, communication/language or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to defray the additional costs that their families face.
“In Melilla more than 450 students will be able to benefit from this aid that will help make our education system much more inclusive,” said Moh.
