· The current mayor and his predecessor, under whose legislature the approval of the Plan was achieved, have shown the progress in the actions
· With funding from European funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan
· These are actions aimed at adapting to climate change and preventing depopulation
The town of Cenientos has already executed 60 percent of the actions foreseen within the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD), with an investment of 1.8 million euros from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (European funds Next Generation EU).
The efforts to access these funds were made during the previous legislature, something that the current mayor, Jerónimo López González, wanted to acknowledge during the visit made today to the municipality by the Government delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, and reason why he has invited his predecessor in office, Natalia Núñez, to participate in it.
It is a gesture that the government delegate has described as “exemplary” in considering that it is a good reference of how to put aside the “legitimate differences” and work together in favor of the neighbors. “We have to work on what unites us and leave confrontation on the sidelines,” he said.
Francisco Martín has been able to see how the investments received by the municipality have served to boost clean energy, through solar panels, which drives bicycles and vans, or to carry out a service treatment in the area of Prado de las Aguas. He also visited the ancient centuries-old wineries that the Consistory acquired to install the flagship project of the Plan, a Centre for the Interpretation of Nature.
These actions “reflect the important investments that the Government of Spain is making in the Community of Madrid, betting on its tourism and environmental sustainability”, he added.
The PSTD of Cinderella is part of the extraordinary call of 2022, and aims to develop a sustainable, innovative and competitive tourism model that takes advantage of the natural, cultural and historical wealth of Cinderella, generating employment, avoiding depopulation and preparing for climate change.
With a current execution of 50.8%, the main actions included in the plan are distributed in four axes:
AXIS 1: Ecological transition
· Fire prevention and climate adaptation: forest measures, signage, mountain access control and awareness campaigns.
· Creation of the Interpretation Center – Nature Classroom.
AXIS 2: Energy efficiency and sustainable mobility
· Reducing the carbon footprint and promoting sustainable mobility.
· Charging infrastructures and zero emission electric vehicles for tourist use.
AXIS 3: Digital transition:
· Digital tools for user integration and tourism impact management in destinations.
· Tourism training.
AXIS 4: Competitiveness:
· Outsourcing and hiring of technical manager for the PSTD
· Protection, improvement of accessibility and valuation of the Historical-Cultural Heritage.
· Environmental Quality and Sustainable Tourism Audits and Certifications.
These investments are part of the state’s strategy to promote greener, more digital and cohesive tourism. In total, the Tourist Sustainability Plan of the Government of Spain reaches 37 million euros in the Community of Madrid, benefiting about twenty municipalities and natural spaces.
